now that the 'how-to apply stripes' has disappeared, can anyone who's done the long job themselves please offer advice on getting the 8" wide stripes around the fascia and trunk/back bumper curves (on an RT)??
thanks
;)

Use a blow dryer on hot to soften the vinyl just enough to allow you to curve it the way you want without wrinkles... but not too much!

You may want to try a practice piece or two. Good luck and have patience.

The cost of the vinyl itself isn't really that expensive....maybe 15 bucks worth of vinyl. You just need to cut it straight and the width you want. You'll probably have to buy a big roll of it if you want to do it yourself.

I had my GTS done professionally, by a racing graphic artist outfit. They did a great job, and convinced me that doing this is not all that easy. Their quoter originally quoted a special run of vinyl that was dual 8" rows of vinyl with the correct separation between the two. Sounds easy huh. Just line up the vinyl and put down both stripes at once, with the correct separation. But, the expert installer called once I gave the OK, and told me that there was no way they could actually do it that way. The curves make it difficult. I did not watch the install, as it took two business days. So, I don't have any tips for you. But, I am glad I did not try this myself. BTW, the badge on the front fascia was slightly off. They had to move it slightly.

Flat area are relatively easy, but the compound curves are brutal.

not easy AT ALL! Don't be fooled. I had 3-4 sets of pros take a crack at it after I gave up, and they had trouble getting it just right. Of course if you're not picky about how your car looks, then go for it.

I did have the idea of getting 12 inch wide vinyl, then using a wall leveling laser, draw the line and remove the excess with a razor. Would probably work really well, but requires a gentle touch with a sharp object on your baby.
