I was hoping to get into a Mercedes SL55, but a dealer I was trying to go through and had one lined up seriously let me down. It got to the point where I am so disgusted with the whole thing am sort of turned off on the entire idea of an SL55. So now I am really thinking of getting back into a Viper. I really wanted the roadster, but still that age old question of GTS or RT/10. So I think my search will be on here soon!

I think I will be staying in the 1998 or 99 version. Looking for good deals!:drive: :D

Gotta do the 99.. the interior upgrades itself are worth it!

The GTS had more opportunites to rice out. :D

So this was supposed to be for your girl... she gonna be happy with a Viper?

If you pull the trigger and purchase another viper, the first thing I would do is buy a set of plug wires from Adam!!!

ab,

I have an FE and have also been looking to add an SL55 to the stable. I've also had a very frustrating/irritating experience in the shopping process. I know this isn't the thread you're seeking, but just curious as to your experience on the MB side. At the end of the day, the raw killer appeal and value for the buck of the Viper just can't be beat.

Mike that GTS does look nice. You know the owner?

Vipertime, it's a long story, but MB guys are wishy-washy people who don't give straight answers and think that they are the ultimate in everything. I was going through an exotic car dealer and just more or less got the run around on an SL55. I had money in hand ready to go. Pretty frustrating.

Had a guy who had zero post trying to sell me a high mileage 97 with lots of mods and tells me it was never raced. Hmm...was I born yesterday? LOL! Plus he told me it had MSD wires on it. LOL!

Ijust wrote off a 98 supercharged GTS. Now I bought an '01 Sapphire w Silver stripes (supercharged with Forged pistons). Not much difference. I like the Sapphire color best. I had the 98 perfect and will get the 01 perfect as well. Love 'em!

Hey Ab,

You're exactly right about buying an MB from an MB dealer, they are not the most friendly to those of us that are very direct and won't pay for what I call "superflous imaginary extras" that almost every MB dealer seems to imply you get when you buy a Benz. I bought mine off a non-MB dealer wholesale because he was overstocked and needed yard space, but that's tough to find.

Glad you're thinking Viper again, and I'm looking forward to seeing the mods you pull off. I recently saw an article where they put turbos in the rear of a vehicle, plumbed all the way to the front to save not only underhood space, but the intake charge was cooler because the distance exposed to undercar airflow.....I immediately looked to see how much room was behind the rear wheels! Keep us posted on your search!

Regards,
Aaron

99 RT/10. You'll pay a couple grand more for a GTS. With the hardtop the experience of driving an rt-10 is almost identical to a gts, yet you can't take the roof off a gts. ;)

Of course I'm one of those rare few that likes the looks of the rt-10 with the hardtop... the chopped side windows make the car look lower and meaner IMO.

Make mine a GTS. The drag co-efficient is much better. 4mph better top speed?

Sorry R/T guys, but I love the tail & looks of the GTS sooooo much better! Oh yah, the cargo area is doubled.

I use my car for long (1,000Mi.+) trips everytime so it has to be a GTS.
