and buying a newer GTS...maybe a sapphire blue with silver stripes. I want to add a s/c as well. For some reason I just don't want to mod my 96. Something to do with it being the first year and being in such perfect non-modded shape. Strange thinking?

I have owned my 96 for about 3 months now and I love it. The car is next to perfect for being a 7 year old car but...

I also want ABS, 18 inch wheels and the air bag shut off switch.

Thoughts?

The only downside I see is the hypereutectic pistons in the later model years. If you are planning on supercharging, I would be more comfortable with forged pistons.

Toby, you and I think alike. I also have a pristine 96 GTS, totally stock with 4700 miles. Itching to mod, but this car is too nice to alter, so I'm just going to save and buy another that I can modify, use and abuse.

Question: Why would you sell and buy another viper with a less desirable color? :) :) :)

its a 96 GTS..blue and white..

with 10K miles. All original except tubes, filters and muffler delete. (I have the stock muffler as well)

The original tires have 50% and everything is as new as it can be for a 7 year old car.

All recalls have been done.

Other than myself it's a one owner with a FULL service history. The car was looked over top to bottom less than three months ago and it is in 100% working order.

No repaints or damage either.

I just purchased a 4/60K warranty last month for 2500.00 so I could throw that in as well.

I want 47K (firm) + 2500.00 if you want the warranty.

Toby,
You have the fastest color combo ever produced and you want to sell it and get the second fastest color combo? :D It's a little known fact(as well as a trade secret) the Blue/White Vipers came from the factory with a "chrome muffler bearing" that adds an extra 25 HP. Those Yellow guys are living in complete denial with being slower. That's why they always have those "Yellow is faster" threads. :D :D :D

Keep your 96, master the art of threshold braking, buy 18" wheels for it and pull the fuse for the airbags when you want to disable it. Also, its a great year for BOOST. Enjoy your Viper and don't worry too much about resale value. After all its not an investment, its a toy (an expensive one at that).

Good luck with what ever decision you make.

And for all you Yellow's out there who are about ready to rat pack me...notice all the smilies. :D

Get the Roe S/C, have your fun..... Then when ready to sell, take a Saturday and put back to stock. Sell the blower. Easy... I could understand if you had to drill holes, mod body panels, etc... But this unit is a bolt on/bolt off. And let's be honest - Any year Viper is pretty rare and impressive. Do you think it is going to be any easier to modify that gorgeous Saphire/Siver GTS? Probably not....

Re: I am thinking of selling already...

hit some nonaero mods that don't get into the body at all and have fun with knowing that the car can go back to stock at any time. exhaust, charger, whatever, maybe skip the multiplaned BBQ rack that I don't think is your style anyways.

it's just too much car to let sit there, if it's bothering you being the best color, then dump it and downgrade.

totally unbiased opinion here!hahaha

Keep it! The market is down. Every 99 and newer Viper owner wishes they had your computer, camshaft, water pump, and pistons.

You can't take anything with you when you depart this planet, so don't worry about the mods and who farted in the seat first!

Very nice car.

Not saying it makes it horrible but it does have some rust on the bolts.

And to the guys who have NEVER driven their Viper in the rain do you too have rusted bolts/screws, or is that prevented if you don't drive it in the rain.

I have to look and see if mine are rusted.

MichaelP - Rust on the bolts is a very common problem for east coast cars. Lots of moisture in the air. Florida cars esspecially. Check under the back bumper and look at your bolts, more than likely, they will be a tad rusty.

Re: I am thinking of selling already...

10k miles and I have two offers above 45K without the added warranty.

its 47k without the warranty or nothing. Add 2.5K with the warranty. I am not giving this thing away.

besides I am 99% sure I am keeping it anyway.

An offer of 40K? give me a break.

The rust bolts you see is very minor...most of it came right off with a rag. A small project..remove and refinish to make them perfect again.

As far as I can tell this car was either never or rarely driven in the rain. It's just too clean.

here is another shot...

see..no rusty bolts :D

I am curious if the bolts would be rusted even if they are NEVER driven in the rain.

I KNOW my bolts are rusty. I drive my car EVERY day no matter the weather. It is suprising how well they do in the wet weather. :)

Re: I am thinking of selling already...

Toby,

What did you pay for the car? I know you probably won't answer this, but 'inquiring minds want to know'. Can't blame you for wanting to make money, though.... It is a clean car. Personally, I think you should keep the car.

TSB 08-025-01 "Air Bag on/off switches" just might be what you are looking for.

Mod it and enjoy it. Do things carefully and you can always return it to stock if that is important to you.

Toby, do what VIPR GTS said. VIPR GTS and myself both have the same great Viper Tech & he put the Roe Supercharger in both of our Vipers.

Re: I am thinking of selling already...

I had an offer for 49.5 with the warranty over the weekend but I am going to keep it.

This winter will be mod time.

Thanks Kenny and VIPR GTS for the info.
