Went to dinner last week and told wifey about my brother getting a Ferrari for x-mas and reminded her about a bet I made years ago with him that when he bought his Ferrari I would buy a Viper. She said 'buy one'; after the paramedics resuscitated me she told me 'to sell some of those crappy stocks we own and get my Viper; the last time she looked you couldn't take it with you

'

I have been researching exactly what I want and what I can afford. I can spend up to 40K, I would like a 97+ RT/10, low mileage, has service records, hard top, and must be 'Hello Officer' red! I am not going to rush into this and want to be sure I enjoy my dream car.

Do you think this is a realistic price? Any adivice on how to tell if the mileage has been put on 1/4 at a time? Would prefer one that hasn't been abused.

Any 'nubie' advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!!

Bill

Congrats on your wife's permission. You will not be dissapointed with a Viper. And better yet your first kill can be your friends Ferrari. About your choice. I believe Dodge only made a 100 or so 97 RT's, so it will probably be hard to find one that cheap. Look around on eBay, VCA classifieds, and do a search here as well. The prices are really good. If you can spare another 10k you can pratically get a brand new one.

I despise the thought of having to get a wife's permission but the above comment made me laugh. She sounds like a keeper.

97 is a good choice but whatever Viper you get you will like. Merry Christmas.

Wild Bill -- Don't forget to enjoy the chase. Looking for the "perfect" Viper will be both frustrating and invigorating. I'm partial to the red and white Vipers, but this would be out of your price range. There are still a fair number of Final Editions at dealers if you consider buying new. Good luck and post pics when you make your choice -- just be careful with the go pedal until you build experience. Merry ** **!

I concur with the advice to call Pemberton, he can not only find what you want, he can EDUCATE you on what NOT to buy, and he will not pressure you, he simply loves to talk Vipers. I spoke with him last night about my new car and I suggest you ask him about the special financing they have available right now, you might be able to afford more than you think! Warranty is very important and he can advise and sell you the long term warranty on a used car even if you don't buy the car from him. They just got the first shipment of 2003's in the last 2 days, and of course he will be talking to numerous owners of used cars as he delivers the new ones and he could point you to owners trading a good one for the 2003.
