I recently got a new lamp switch on my viper and I noticed it said "ford" on it. I wonder what else I will find that say's ford. I better double check the engine.

K car

I believe Jay had a thread some time ago identifying all the carryover parts from other cars. It was kind of interesting.

Can someone please post the link to the thread mentioned about carryover parts from other cars. I am particulary interested in what parts may be available for vehicles that are manufactured for Right Hand drive, as it may make life easier with the conversion of my car to RHD.

Thanks in advance.

Hey Mike....it's Volkswagen...with an "e".

I also noticed that my 2000 GTS, my '94 Bronco and my '03 Mustang Cobra all use the same HVAC controls.

Hahahaha yup....

The control head for the heating/cooling came from Ford's (now Visteon's) climate control division. Which went over to TRW when the SRT came out...

I tried the link but it came up with access denied, I also tried a search and nothing came up, what do I need to do to access the link?.

Does anyone know if the Dakota/Viper steering rack is the same as the Jeep uses.

Thanks Philip

Link is to some very old board page that I had printed out long ago. Here's what was on it with items from several people. Can't say if all are actually true though.

HVAC Controlls: Jeep Wrangler.
Gen1 control arms from a Dakota.
Gen2 are specifically engineered for the Viper.
Wiper motors are from a Caravan rear window.
Ashtray is from the K-car series.
K car ashtray. Audi foglamps.
Ford headlight switch.
Ford heater controls. G
M (Delphi) key fob remote. (newer Vipers)
Freightliner side front markers.
Caravan power window switches.
Steering column used in other front drivers.
Hood insulation retainers...same as my '72 Plymouth.

Rear calipers from Eagle Premier.
"Resonators" in the sills are mufflers from a Dakota. Mirrors are the ones from the Dodge Stealth.
Handbrake is from a Cherokee.
Rear wheel bearings, drive hubs and ball joints: Dakota 4x4. Front wheel bearings are similar.
Coil packs: corporate I-4 and V-6 motors.
Connecting rods are similar to those found in 5.2/5.9L Dodge Magnum engines and rod bearings are the same.

What's the big deal? If you look hard enough every car shares common components with half a dozen other cars. If each and every model had all unique components cars would cost at least double what they sell it for.

Its no big deal, I hope I can find shared components!! I am about to undertake a conversion of my RT/10 to Right hand drive, my hope is to be able to find some parts that need changed with the conversion that are in common with vehicles that we have here in NZ as Right hand drive vehicles, i.e. Jeeps, Caravans (Voyagers).
