I know it is sad, but what will dealership closing do to price of 08-09 Vipers?

If the sale has not been inked yet to a buyer, it is going to be tough to get a deal done due to the new CAFE standards just passed by the Obama administration. A new owner with a single product line (Viper) is going to have a tough time meeting a 40mpg fleet average.
IMHO,the future price for current Vipers will remain low for years to come. Perhaps there will be an uptick for the early GTS cars but time will have to catch up with the Gen 3 and Gen 4 cars before they appreciate a significant amount. Perhaps in a couple of decades.:dunno:

It's a good question - I'm hoping someone out there knows how the CAFE standards are applied, and who they apply to. My uneducated guess would be that a boutique or specialty manufacturer would be able to produce a certain low-production number of cars without falling under the CAFE umbrella. Also, I'm assuming that larger manufacturers could produce cars that don't meet CAFE standards as long as they pay the 'gas guzzler tax' that is then passed on to the consumer. Anyone know for sure?

How about some examples of vehicles that went up in price when its manufacturer went bankrupt? I haven't done the research, but how about DeLorean? Saleen? What about Alpha Romeo when they disappeared in USA? The price of Lambos and Ferraris, not to mention Porsche and Vettes are down, and you think Viper is going up? I think that's wishful and reckless (unless you are talking to guys who have the money to burn). Lack of warranty and resale price decline will cause the price to tank, IMO. Lack of parts will not help the situation. JMHO

Agreed. Many people think they will rise in the near future but that is not going to happen. The prices might straightline but the days of sticker are long gone. Now maybe in the distant future prices will go up but just because Chrysler is going Bankrupt does not equal prices going insaine. If people are not buying at $65K or $70K then who is going to buy at $90K?

Oh, they're being bought. There have been a number of new owner posts in the last few weeks. The overall tough economic climate has definitely put a damper on sales, but they are still happening. I had been watching Woodhouse's inventory slowly drop over the last month or two.

Speaking from direct knowledge- the seller of my '08 SSG just bought a brand new ACR from Ringgold which freed up my car:D

Now, the more common colored cars.... they might be sitting a little longer, but the cream is being skimmed off the top as we speak:drive:

Once annouced, 09 cars are going to jump in price. Everyone wants the first and last of a series. 08 cars will succumb to the horrible cheap prices off MRSP with the exception of unbought ACRs.

New owner, dead scenerio, doesn't matter! Dodge Viper will be dead regardless and the new owner will have Viper but does that mean it is the same. Did nothing for Saleen vehicles as they flopped after Steve. I agree with others buy them while you can because anything above 6 cylinders will not be made in new cars anymore and the only V8s in America will be truck diesels. Writing is firmly on the wall.

That brings back the memories. That was also said back in the mid 70s, after the oil embargo of 1973 and the beginning of the horsepower-robbing smog components added to the cars. I was a teenager in the seventies and remember thinking to myself that I was born a decade too late and will never be able to enjoy high power automobiles. I was wrong then and you may be wrong now. But it's easy to pontificate.

Skybob;

I could be wrong and have to eat my words, but you have to look at why the hp died in the 70s (we all know why) and why it took so long to come back, not really until the last few years did we start to get supercar hp again. It was not until the electronics age, access to exotic materials and manufacturering processes and overall better advances in vehicle design were used to really get the power out there.

However the reason I made that statement is it is blaightenly what this new government and the tree huggers want to do and if they are squeezing 350 hp (stage I), 415 hp (stage II) and 470 hp (stage III) out of a first generation Ford Ecoboost V6 engine, than it is going to be a hard case to say why they need a V8 or V10 or V12 in a new car. In the 70s and 80s the V6 was bare 100 hp. Now a new Chevy Camero has 300hp or 350 hp from it's new V6. It is a totally different situation now.

This is why the Viper will be a collectible down the road and might be 20 years as opposed to a 40 year life cycle for maximum return on the first generation muscle car craze. They are just not going to build that anymore. Might be time to get out there and buy a used Ford Excursion as even a vehicle like could be collectible just becuase they will not produce anything even remotely like that anymore. It is a very useful vehilce for certain people and situations. It will be interesting to see in the future what certain things are worth. However a V6, I do believe will be the max on a car out of America. It ***** as I love my V8s, V10s.
