I need help from people who installed the Corsa 3\" exhaust. Check engine light

I helped a friend put on a cat back Corsa 3" system on today. We trasferred the downstream O2 sensors and connected everything right.

When we started his 2001 RT/10 his check engine light came on. We reset the computer, but that didn't do anything. Any ideas???

Help!!

Also, we did wash his engine down since it was a mess. Maybe water got somewhere where it shouldn't? How would you know if you have a bad O2? Car seems to run fine.

You may have set up a misfire code...or may read lean or rich code...check via ODB II code reader...OR try starting car/shutting it down 4 times, and see if engine light gone...if you caused misfire code with engine bath, AND if condition now corrected, light should go away after 4 run cycles...and yes, o2 sensor may be the problem if damaged.

What is the code...do you have a OBDII code scanner to see what code is setting the light?

i don't have the OBD code reader. We tried the 3 cycle method, but nothing would blink.

Adam,

I couldn't get mine to blink either when my exhaust set a code...I picked up an OBDII code reader...Got mine from Summmit based on recco's off this board...EQUSS 3100 from Summit Racing for $127.50 plus $10 for expedited shipping...works like a charm...

It is WAY easier to diagnose with the code that is setting the light... EQUSS OBDII Code Reader

I added a 3" Corsa to my '01. I got a checklight shortly after, but it turned out to be a ground wire that was partially cut when the factory installed the air compressor when the car was assembled. Just a coincidence that it failed soon after installing the Corsa. I also bought the Equaas 3100 and it did a good job of reading and reseting the code until Dodge could figure out what the real problem was. I don't think the newer Vipers blink the error code when you do the key cycle thing. At least mine didn't, even though it is in the service manual.

One thing to check for is that the O2 sensor wires didn't get wound together too tight when the O2 sensors were reinstalled. I've heard that can cause problems. The sensor wires should be unwound a ways before screwing the sensor into place. Might be something to check.

Hey Adam,
On 96 and newer cars, the only method to check the codes is by using the OBD II. 95 and older you can chech the codes by the "blinking check engine" light.

I thought the newer cars required the O2 simms if the cats were out? Did ya take out the cats?

Go to an Autozone...they will usually check the codes for free...may want to buy an ODBII scanner there as well.

I got Belanger's Headers, Random Tech Ultra High Flow Cats, and the 3" Corsa Cat Back. I've never had a check engine light come on.

I'd guess the engine bath may be the source of the problem.
