I thought head gaskets were expensive?

I just bought a 94 RT/10, and of course I had some concerns about the head gaskets since they were never changed yet (car has 14k miles on it). So I go to look them up since I've seen pricing on here somewhere between $700-$1,300 for just the gasket.

I found this one eBay starting at $25:

Also it looks like Summit Racing has them for $325:

Is it me, or am I looking at the wrong thing?

If the heads aren't weeping, don't worry too much but keep an eye on it.

If they do leak, you might decide to spend 1/3 the price and not have to worry about it (hopefully) for another 10 years. I have read that fresh bolts are a good idea when the heads come off, though.

old style are made of paper. New style is MLS (multi-layered steel). There are no aftermarket head gaskets for Gen 1's. Gotta get ripped off by DC to get them:mad:
I thought I had heard something about aftermarket head gaskets for gen 1's were in development. Do you know if that's the case?

DC Performance and PartsRack were contemplating making a run of them; why don't you give them a call?

that first pic of the ones on ebay are the old style, no good...the person has been trying to sell those for years, as an ornament for your garage...no takers...:dunno:

i replaced my gaskets nearly two years ago, and they looked like a lot different than the ones you have posted above...almost all metal, no paper!!

As someone already stated, Cometic will make custom gaskets. l just received my Cometics for my Gen II, the service and turnaround was excellent.

I had a set of custom, hand-made, copper/asbestos sandwich gaskets made from Molina Gasket in CA for a V8 and they cost $200.

The quality of the workmanship was outstanding.

Of course, my application was iron/iron.

They could also do composition with crush rings around the cylinders.

Just a thought...

THAT OLD, PAPER GASKET IS WORTH $25.

ONE GASKET FOR $325 AT SUMMIT IS ABOUT RIGHT.

TORQUE YOUR HEADBOLTS NOW TO PROLONG THE AGONY......
