I took my car to the track. Help me analyze my passes.

OK, here is the set up:
1997 GTS Hennessey Venom 500
(headers, exhaust, smooth tubes, 3.55 gear)
Stock rims with Toyo Proxes TQ drag radials @ 15 psi (345/40/17)

I dont have my time slips with me at the moment, but my best passes were all very similar.

1/4-
11.8s @ 121.5-123 mph

1/8-
7.85-7.95 @ 94-95 mph

60 ft 1.95-2.05

My three best passes were 11.86, 11.87, and 11.89.

I know my 60 ft is terrible, but I figured I would trap higher in the 1/8 than I did. I tried everything to improve my 60 ft. I launched higher, I launched lower, I bogged, I hazed, I slipped. Still all above 1.9.

I was still impressed by my trap speed and my ultimate goal was to get in the 11s. I guess it was mission accomplished.

So, what can you tell me about my passes? What does my trap in the 1/4 tell me? What about the 1/8? I thought my 1/8 trap would be around 100, so thats one thing i want to know for sure.

thanks!

I'm impressed. Very close passes overall, and great times for not being super or turbocharged. Drag radials probably helped a lot too. My stock GTS ran 12.7 at VOI12 @ 117 mph.

Not the answer you were looking for, but some kudos.

The drag radials didn't help me as much as I would have liked, considering my 60 ft sucked. But I think it was more in my launch technique than tires.

60ft is definitely slowing your times. Hard to tell why without a in car video. Are you shifting fast and at the correct rpm?

I am shifting quickly, but might be at too high of an rpm. I am shifting around 6k. Also, on my launch, I bogged down nearly every pass. I think I wasn't giving it enough throttle as I slipped the clutch.

First off make sure you heat the tires up, then hold the rpm somewhere around 3500. It's going to depend on traction but the rpm you launch at will vary a bit. I let the clutch out relatively quickly without much slippage. If you've heated the tires and you've given it the right amount of rpm you'll launch somewhere in the 1.8s or better. Great times and very good mile an hour for a relatively stock car.

If your clutch is slipping, it's time for a new clutch. My stock clutch holds strong for a modified engine.

My clutch is still good. My tires should have been heated just fine. I think I didn't give it enough throttle when in slipped my clutch on launch, thus it bogged down.

I know. I think my problem is I am used to launching on the street and I am too easy on the gas. I wasnt giving it enough throttle as I let the clutch out and it bogged down. I will try again next time!

Exactly what I said, but you stated you tried everything and that you either bogged or hazed or slipped. Thus you either didn't give it enough rpm at launch, didn't heat the tires properly, or your clutch is giving out. You stated your issues, not me.

I just need more practice.

try coming out at 2500rpm,slip the clutch a little then floor it never take the pedal off the floor. also learn how to speed shift. with stock tires just spin them to clean, no burnout. i ran 11.46 stock 2002 rt/10, check dragtimes.com

Cam- regardless, my 60 ft sucked and I need to fix it. Haha.

Everybody is being nice. Yes, your 60 ft times are horrid for drag radials. If you have a 1/8 nearby jump on it and don't leave until you figure it out. I've made as many as 50 1/4 mile passes during a single Vipers only track day.

You might have too much gear also.

Just being honest.

BTW I don't slip the clutch. It is true there can be a .1 or more if you do but it isn't worth it to me. I got 130,000 miles out of my stocker before changing it.

I don't slide my foot off it but I engage it quickly. I guess you could say instead of feathering the clutch I feather the gas. It has been a few years but if I recall correctly 3K was where I would start and then go higher or lower depending on conditions. Keep in mind I run stock. Not sure what you should launch with a 3.55 and drag radials. Tire pressure matters too. Fiddle with that a bit.

I went back to the track tonight. 11.63 @121 with a 1.65 60ft. Slipped the clutch quickly and hammered the throttle. I launched at about 4k.

awesome run ! you might want to try 24psi rear tires and 40 psi front. looking forward to your next runs. can you post your 1/8 times and speed plus time of day your running.
