I,ve been told that front end alignment is a \"BIG deal

My Viper tech say's that he has never done one other than at school. He says it is an elaborate setup or something. I asked about getting mine done and he said it was time consuming and expensive. Is this true? How much should I expect to pay.

I would never do a "front end" alignment on a Viper. It should be all 4 wheels and is a fair bit of work, but not that big a deal. It should not take more than 3-4 hrs with proper setup tools. It can also be done at home with camber gauge, jack stands and string, if you know what you are doing.

If your Viper tech is intimidated, find a good alignment shop that is familiar with performance sports car alignment. Then decide specs; For the street something like 3/4 deg negative camber front, 0 toe front, max caster (equal left and right); rear 3/4 deg neg camber, 1/8" toe in. But check around and go with factory specs if you just want to cruise and maximize tire life.

This would be great to have in a tech article.

Now that I have a camera tripod, I'll see about doing a how-to. I align my car about 6 or 8 times a year in the garage going back and forth from track to street setup. Saturday was the last one.
