I want to trade my 2003 black calipers for red calipers.

I agree. I painted and polished mine on the car and they looked great.

When I had my 03 I painted mine, looked awesome, had it for 5 yrs and no issues. Cost about $30 and a few hours.

+1 for painted. Wikkid, the previous owner of my car painted and put Viper stickers on them. they look great and have held up without a problem!

So if you're doing G2 over calipers that are already painted, do you need to sand them down and do a lot more prep work? Mine have the red calipers which look terrible with my blue paint, would like to color match them.

I used TAL Airplane Stripper to get the red paint the previous owner had put on them off (it was brushed on and looked like crap). Just BE CAREFUL with it and wear long sleeves and chemical resistant rubber gloves.
It comes in a spray can and works very well, but burns like hell if you get it on you (even tiny aerosol droplets feel like hot needles). Also make sure you don't get it on any of the rubber seals in the calipers. I'm not sure whether it would damage them or not, but I didn't want to find out.
Just spray the stuff on the caliper and let it set a couple of minutes (you'll see it bubbling). After a few minutes, you can basically wipe off the old paint with a rag. I used a toothbrush to get into the tighter areas.

I did mine in a lighter red metallic (I think it was an engine paint) and it had held to the heat with no issues. The olnly problems I've had is some staining on them from brake dust mixed with extremely high temps and some fluid leaking from the ****** at the track.

There's a caliper paint kit available at chain Auto stores that works well, use a foam brush from Lowes or depot to apply, 2 coats and your done. No brush marks and has a clear hardener for durability. Then buy stickers on line. Or do the swap for turnkey calipers on flee bay, easy enough.

Yes, a pretty simple project if you have some patience. I think i put about 5 coats on my calipers, and then of course the decals.
