I\'m brand new here and I am so happy !!! One question:

I'm brand new here, but I feel like I know alot of you guys already. I've been reading this board for quite awhile now, and now that I'm purchasing a GTS, I thought I'd better get invloved and get some feedback from you as well. I've been looking at some '96 and '97 GTS's, and I want to make the right choice when I do this purchase, but one car came along that threw me for a loop.........a '98 GTS that was originally Silver with Black stripes. It was painted an Ocean blue before it was even delivered to the owner when Brand New. It looks really nice, but how much LESS is that car worth now than if it were just left alone??? It's got 11,ooo miles too. Thanks !!!

Re: I\'m brand new here and I am so happy !!! One question:

I'm sure this doesn't matter but the car was disassembled for paint, and the paint job ran the guy 8,000 dollars over the top of the sticker price. More money than brains club member, but what the heck, He liked it. I was told that you couldn't ever tell it was originally Silver without looking at the data sheet on it.

Boy did that ever answer my questions. Thanks, and now I can say that my very first post was a duplicate of someone elses !! Sorry about that. I think i'm gonna stick to the "Classic Blue" with the double white stripes on the '96 or '97.

RESALE<RESALE<RESALE!!!! I would not consider any Viper repainted,no matter how well it was done! (With the exeption of properly done stripes) That WILL be a tough sell later for you as well! Stick with the blue/white combo, looks better, sells better...AL...00prowler...

Welcome JH23JOB. I know what those numbers mean. They are the beginning of the serial number for a 340 sixpak T/A or Cuda. Our Six Pak T/A wasJH23JOB 291391. Sold it three and a half years ago to get the Viper. Never looked back, got an RT/10 because I still loved the sidepipes! You won't be sorry.

Re: I\'m brand new here and I am so happy !!! One question:

JH23J0B-

this question really needs to be clarified as it relates to when the car was painted.

for classic car collectors generally it is significant whether a modification to the car in question took place before or after delivery as arranged by dealer. In this circumstance it may be considered a delaer installed option. For it to qualify as a dealer installed option it must be reflected in the original purchase order. If the car in question was purchased through a dealer and up front the dealer arranged for the paint job then this car would qualify. this being the case usually arrangements are made to include modifications under the umbrella of factory warranty though possibly limited to the dealer from where the car was purchased as opposed to the network of dealers representing the make.

A paint job is pretty extreme for a dealer installed option but hey money talks. If this is the case then the car could be "more" collectible down the road, that is if it looks good. but hey what's not to look good about a GTS.

If you can convince the seller that the non standard price has a price impact then generally the rule of thumb is to deduct what it would take to get the car back to original from the price. if they go for it then you could possibly get into the car for alot less than you would have otherwise. You know there is one non factory color i've seen on this board i really liked, it was a metallic red, kind of burgandy. The color on that car would not have inhibited my intentions to buy it for the right price.

As vipermad said above, if you like it then buy it. Hope this helped.

Jason

p.s. a couple things. silver with "blue" stripes was a fairly rare color scheme. do you have a challenger t/a? one of my favorite cars...i definitely prefer it over a BS23J0B and probably over a BS23R0B too.

Hey JH23J0B,

I owned a '70 1/2 Dodge Challenger T/A as well. It was B5 blue with a black vinyl top and black bucket seat interior with a console with a floor mounted slap-stick Torqueflite. Sold it to a guy in Calgary, Alberta Canada in the summer of 1980 for $6500. Probably is worth in excess of $35,000 at this time. Great car!

Re: I\'m brand new here and I am so happy !!! One question:

You guys are GOOD !!! JH23JOB IS the start of the V.I.N. number for a '70 T/A Challenger. My car is a 46xxx original mile car, fully restored FY1 Yellow ( no vinyl roof )black interior, 340 SIX PACK, 4 -speed. I actually just sold the car but haven't delivered it yet. I also sold my favorite car which was my '71 'Cuda convertible ( nash bridges car ). I'm now buying a GTS to play with, and I'm sure it'll be alot of fun, if not more fun. BTW, I still have a '70 Challenger R/T, and an original FM3 Pink '70 383 'Cuda too. No shortage of toys here, and I'm looking forward to the GTS more than i've ever looked forward to any of my others. I CAN"T WAIT !!!

Yes, I did come from the Moparts web board. That's where someone told me about this place. I really needed this place for my newest adventure in automobiles. Are you a member there too?

(Except your post on the "can you explain this?" thread)

Serious we love new posters, especially if they finally actually buy and I'm sure you will (ask Gennie and 2tall).

Perhaps you should try a search using the words "I'm new here"
