guys-

I am looking for a inexpensive in-dash mounted aftermarket CD player/receiver, with a removable face if possible, for my 1994 Dodge Viper. Can you help me? Thanks.

Don't get nothing to cheap. You should be able to get something decent for $300-$400. I went with an Eclipse 6 disk in dash, not cheap but very
cool.gif

good luck

I've bee thinking of this myself, but, I want everything. I want a CD/DVD changer, IN DASH, and I don't want to cut my my dash to do it.

Any ideas, or experiences?

bigr1,

Don't know if the GenI radio is setup like the GenII...but I had the stock system pulled out and a Sony head(w/changer) put in. All went well in the installation(dash-wise) but the wiring did require a little work. I am now putting in a Kenwood head w/Music Keg and it is fitting in just fine...no dash work at all.

Hope this helps a little,

I first installed a Eclipse head unit and it was nice but very bad reception so I replaced it with a remote control Alpine and it works awesome...........

Hey Andrew,
The unit is a AM/FM cd player, remote control, "XM" radio capable. To get the XM radio, additional sat. antenna and hook ups must be purchased. I didn't put in XM, no real need for me. It has the capability to hook up an external multi-CD player. Look at www.pioneerelectronics.com for more info. I did a little extra wiring, but nothing too difficult. Hope this helps,

Mike

P.S. I don't know why anybody would put a DVD player in a car of this type...... like we need ANYTHING else to distract us from our driving this monster.

I installed an Alpine 7874. I chose it because you need two pre-outs to run the amps and it also has CD shuttle controls so I can eventually install a changer. I bought it on Ebay for $150.00 new with warranty. It has built in subwoofer controls, frequency and levels. It also has a built in crossover that really lets you tune it to the interior harmonics. I would strongly encourage you to check this unit out. It installs very easy, fit just like stock unit.

Viper1994 -- I really like the looks of the Alpine 7874. Was it a "drop-in" replacement for the stock Alpine or were wiring changes required? Thanks.

You will have to do some wiring, I just cut the wires between the stock unit and the plug. That way if you want to put it back to stock it will be easy. Call your local Dodge dealer and have him fax you a copy of the wiring diagram. You will only need to make about 5 connections. Power, memory, ground, there are two grn and red stiped wires (I think) that have to be hooked up to the new radio's power ant lead, this will turn the amps on when you turn your radio on. Your stock mounting bracket that are mounted to your original radio will bolt right up to the new Alpine and it slides right in place. That is why I chose an Alpine unit. I'm not sure if any other brand will do that. If you need any more help let me know.

I bought mine with a $3K system in it.
All Kenwood Excellon. The dashboard unit has a 'black face' (when you power it off, the face just rotates and becomes a black panel). 10 disc in the trunk. 3 amplifiers. Subwoofer integrated in the passenger's footspace. Nearly as good as my home sound system.
