I've just found out via an e-mail from Esurance that my premium to renew my policy for my RT-10 is going up by 38% depite no convictions, claims etc. The reason is apparently that there is a California-wide policy (apparently for all insurance companies I was told) that came into practice last week that does not allow 'preferred driver' (i.e. based on clean driving record) deductions. This seems totally ridiculous to me if it is true. Does anyone have any other information on this?

Completely outrageous!!!! But, on the other hand, if it is true, what's to stop you from speeding as much as you want? :) They can't raise your rates!

I was considering Esurance but ultimately decided to consolidate everything (3 cars & Home) with State Farm, including a blanket liability policy.

I can tell you that in Michigan, State Farm is issuing new policies which use the individual driver's record to more accurately determine their risk in insuring you. This is causing all of my new policies to be cheaper when renewing them.

California is a whole different country though...

Thats the same thing Progressive told me a year ago. Instead of my premium going down due to multiply cars, no tickets etc, it went up like 30%.

Here is how mine goes.full coverage 2 vehicles,99 dodge viper rt/10,03 lincoln aviator.liability of others is bodily 250,000 each person/500,000 each accident, property is 100,000 each accident i pay 611.00 every 6 months for both vehicles which brakes down like this: total general policy premium $249.00,aviator $175.00,viper $324.00 for 6 months and a discount of -137.00 if paid in full. So for a whole year I pay $1,222.00 for both vehicles full coverage.

On a side note , u would not wan't to get in a accident, because PROGRESSIVE does not pay well

Also my deductables are $500 collision $500 compehensive

I just applied for a new one and I got $875/year for $60,000 coverage, no miles limitation. Start of coverage is April 1'st. I paid $1,140 last year with the same coverage on another company and just called them that I am not renewing my insurance thru them. It is really worth it when you shop around even for insurance.
