How many of you have had to replace the intake manifold gaskets on your 1997 Vipers ?

Is this or has this been a problem for this model and year of Viper ?

YES! Every 97 I've worked on needed Manifold gaskets and Fuel Pump!? I think QC was on vacation that year!

Just curious as to what is a sign of bad intake manifold gaskets? poor running engine? or is there visible signs as well?

High Idle: 1500/2000 rpm and it wont come down or stalling and low Idle! It depends on the Intake leak. I've seen both, and all of the ones I've fixed [97's], the bolts for the manifold [when they got to my shop] have been loose or finger tight?
That tells me that person that was installing the manifolds in 97 has a new JOB!

listen to the wizard! I had the problem in my 94, but it was becasue we changed the head gaskets and I did nto retorque the intake manifold gaskets after driving. Also spray a little carb cleaner around the runners while idling. If your engine speeds up, then you have a leak!

It was a commom problem on the 97 / 98 Vipers. They are easy to change about a 1 hr to 1 1/2 hr job. Gaskets are cheap. I use to check my intake torque every 2 months to make sure the bolts didn't loosen off.

I think this is the TSB: 18-11-98 Rough/high idle. Did a quick search using "intake gasket" and found this one for you, it pretty much covers it:

The 194ab part number may now be a higher rev, I have a few 194ac's I picked up when someone was selling a bunch of gaskets they had hanging around their garage. Part catalog still shows proper part number for a '97 as a 194ab.
