In looking at the intake scoop on the hood, i noticed the air defelector mounted behind the scoop and under the hood. It seems it was put there to prevent debris and rain from enter directly into the intake path or filter area. Since it basically misdirects the air front the direct path of the filters, I would think it is eliminating any benifit of the intake. has anyone removed it? It is basically one screw behind the intake. I am thinking of removing it however i can see getting stuck in a rain storm and water getting on the filters.

any thoughts?

It's actually three screws and that was the first mod I made. Might sound silly But I noticed a difference with just that removed. The intake noise is a little more noticable. A good noise though not an annoying whistle.
Will be adding the green filters this week (Had BIG let down with K&N system)

AS far as the water issue, when I wash the car I open the hood and place chamios's where all the openins in the hood are(vents, scoop etc). Rain is not an issue since it's not driven in rain.

Rain is also not an issue with the K&N or Green filters, as they are not harmed by water, where as a pleated paper filter draws up and is ruined when wet.

I really don't think much water cound get in there, and it doe's have a somewhat drainage design built into it.

We all say we don't drive these cars in the rain, but we have all been caught in it.

That rain duct is a trick to get out. You relly have to use a thin shaft screwdriver. Carfull not to strip the screws.

I provides a better flow, but most of the air comes from the lower front opening.
