Just got back from the trim shop and this is what I was quoted:

2 seats-vinyl around outside and leather in middle *black* (just like factory)
dye interior trim black and doors
recarpet bottom of doors

$1000.00

Is that fair?? Seems high to me... What do you think. Should I do it?

That's pretty damn cheap if you ask me. Price out a snake hydes interior. Of course Chad's stuff is much better but you pay for it.

Yeah but the guy is dying his interior pieces not replacing with new leather. Very easy and cheap to dye the factory tan or grey to black. I believe Chad recovers all the pieces. Seats are fairly easy to recover, any good auto upholstery shop will change them out for cheaper if you buy the leather.

I agree Chad's stuff is nice, I have seen cars with his stuff in it as well as Venzano's but any good upholstry shop can duplicate and you won't get nailed with the viper tax.

Guys I'm trying to put as little in this project as possible. Let us not forget that I already have waaaaaaaay too much in this car. Just sent the side sills out to be redone as well. The factory came with vinyl around the outside and leather in the middle. I'm just replacing it with exactly what it had.....nothing more. Do you think this is a fair price for the work?

If you are going to spend $1000 on a re-dye job, then why not buy another set of used seats that are in Great shape. I have seen them numerous times for sale for under $1000.

I think it is just the opposite. Not being a ****, but you may want to get that square before you have the work done.

I was told by numerous people that the seats are only leather in the middle portion. The outside bolsters are vinyl. Makes sense to me...if you look at them you can tell that the outside is hard and shiny. Just to clarify....the "redye job" is only on the plastic trim pieces.

PS-Hey Craig.....whatever dude...nice comment......why don't you go chew on some Canadian bacon....whatever the hell that is :p

Then why don't YOU bust out some magic markers and do the dye job for $11.99?

I'm doing Yellow Suede, replacing black suede on my VCA Edition. $900 for both seats. Thats just material labor for suede inserts. I want to leave the rest alone. I like the yellow stitching and Yellow Viper logo stitching that's there now!

I have never nailed anyone with VIPER TAX. I use only the best Italian leathers. If someone wants me to do some cheap [******] for them I can hook you up with that also. I just see it as if you spent good money on a car with a sub standard interior and had the chance to make it right only the best would do, but that is just my way of thinking. BTW Chad DO NOT LET SOMEONE DYE YOUR OTHER INTERIOR PIECES. IT WILL PEEL OFF. OR CHANGE COLORS. I used to dye some door panel inserts and now they have come back to haunt me. Take if from someone who has been there and done that. I can give you references of work that others have had done that I have had to go back in and fix, just recently.

to answer your original question, it sounds cheap. but i did a great amount of research, including the possibility of dying ( very tempting to me as i have all the needed spray equiptment and experience to do a good quality job. i also checked into the materials various folks use. you are correct, the sides are vinyl and the center is leather.at any rate when all was said and done, i recently sent my interior to chad at snake hydes. my advice is do it right, or leave it alone. jmho. regards, rich.

Chad you do great work, and are more than fair. I have seen your stuff up close and it is perfect. Half the cost of Venzano and equals the quality. But I disagree with dying the hard plastic pcs. If you prep them correctly they will last. I did mine over 2 years ago and no problems. In fact most OEM interior trim pcs come unfinished and you have to paint/dye to match. SEM makes a complete line of ready to spray colors. You have to clean the part good using a plastic prep and spray in med light coats. I would not recommend trying to dye carpet or seat covers, but the door panels, knee bolsters and center pc are all prime canidates for recoloring. I don't think Ed meant you were charging the infamous Viper Tax, just that you could have the seats recovered and done at your local uplustery shop. They would not have the same logos you do or the range of leathers, but still could look nice, much better than the OEM on an old Gen 1.

Thanks for the input Dan. I think I'm going to have the seats done in ALL leather and spray/dye the rest. He's going to scuff them down first and spray them with an adhesive that will help bond the dye a lot better. Chad promised to help with spraying the dash so I'm pretty confident that everything will turn out great. I will post pictures when she's done. BTW Dan....did you get the side sills???
