Wayne, I don't know how other states see this, however in Virginia it would never fly. Because, if their privilage to drive in the state of Virginia has been suspended, it would not matter what license they had.....Their privilage to drive here has been suspended......

Quackery-
Some fool has been perpetuating that to the Ferrari NG for a year or more now. Several attorney have responded negatively about it. Many more used less kind words...

Your best bet? Behave.

International drivers license available from local AAA offices at a nominal charge. (even if not a AAA member) Must be used in conjunction with local license. Benefit is that it is printed in several languages so local police can decipher information. It is not acceptable unless accomplished by your native license. It was useful when I recieved a "too fast for conditions" ticket on the Italian Autostrata. $100 fine deducted from credit card on the spot and e-modum'd instantanously. Cool to get a speeding ticket on an unlimited speed highway!

Sorry to hear that Paul. I have been lucky getting out of tickets in Italy, I know the General of the Polizia Stradale in the Marche region. So that International driver's license from AAA works? How much and how long does it last? Did it deduct points here? or just cash? Since I'll be moving to Italy next year, i don't want to take their license test there (it is totally hard to get the license there), so I would like to know if this is a good alternative. Please reply Paul....

International Drivers License only lasts year or two. No points accesses as they do not share info with Calif or other states, only interpol or common market. The took my credit card, swiped it to the tune of $200,000 lira ($100 bucks american) in a credit card machine with an antenna (sorta a mobile ATM machine) and I signed and was on my way with some words of Italian. Since they did not speak English and I did not speak Italian the event was very cordial with lots of pointing and serious looks. Bonafortuna!
License is a large sheet of white paper folded into a little rectangle with lots of languages printed on it...Kind of like the warranty book on a small electrical appliance.

PS Cops there carry guns!...Roads are great fun, and traffic signal are mearly advisory. Going back to Tusany in May.

Paul...
Write me before you leave. I'll be in Italy from the end onf May to the end of August. We should meet there, I'll take you in a ride with the F50! Then compare. Cops there make up the laws as you said, they don't know much. They always pull me over, i have a Florida tag on the BMW, so I'm prey. I usually get out of tickets, since I speak Italian. As you mentioned, yes, speed limits are suggestions, but they are adopting the USA system of points and licenses this year or next. I'll keep the board infromed.

PS...there is only one other Viper in my area that I know of, and it's a GTS (blue/white stripes), and I know the guy.
