Is there any new information on insulating your sills?

I am just wondering if anyone has come up with anything different for insulating the sills or is the Roe insulating kit or front sill vents the best way to lower side sill temps?

i redid the with the roe insulation but i really dont like it. if i ever have to take the sills off again, im gonna find a better way.

there are a few insulation places on the net but i dont know of one myself.

Eliminating cats can reduce the heat but if you just want it cooler the Roe insulation kit is the way to go, and cheap at that. I had it on a previous Viper and can vouch for the fact that it works.

GTS 5lb, stock cats, Corsa cat backs...and Roe insulation.

Now, that should generate alot of heat, boost behind a set of stock cats...
Roe insultaion handles it.

I am running Random tech high flow cats, Corsa exhaust but with a blower and would really like to cool it down a bit.

The Roe kit has worked for me. I did not vent the front of the sills as it was not recommended by Sean Roe (blows in alot of cr@p).

Just remember:

1. wear gloves and goggles (this is ceramic material)
2. leave about a 1 1/2" open seam along the whole bottom (lets out condensation)
3. Do not close up your sills until you are sure that your exhaust system clamps are right and tight
4. Consider a wideband while you are in there.

Seems the best way was to open the ends.
I have wide open, both ends.
Took off the roe wrap.
Never had an issue with debris....cool sills inside and out.

Can you run just the ROE insulation, or do you use the stock insulation plus the ROE too?? It looks like I was wrong in my selection of a cat-back, got the RandomTech's:lmao:. Not running cat's so used a set of DynoMax Ultraflow bullets in place of the missing cats. Can you say drone city!!! Not sure if the stock insulation maybe adding to this drone. The sills where damn near impossible to get back on,one side took one hour with two of us pushing,pulling and several choice words to finally get it on. It is tight!! Sure it is adding just because it is transfer vibration into the frame. Any suggestions, besides buying a different exhaust?

I bought the Thermo-Tec barrier and wrapped my air box with it as I went with Belanger headers without heat shields and was worried about the air box being too close to the headers. The Thermo-Tec stuff works in reflecting back heat but it won't completely stop the heat from soaking whatever it is you're protecting. I took thermal readings of the airbox after an hour-long cruise. The outside of the box (shielding) was around 230 degrees. The inside of the air box was 118 degrees. I wasn't running the AC or any of the air controls. There's no insulation with this particular barrier and I suspect that's what causing heat soak. They're supposed to come out with an insulated version of this product in June. Make certain the area you're going to stick this to (sills) are clean first otherwise this stuff won't stick and it'll become useless in a hurry. If you have a problem getting this to stick use Thermo-Tec's high temp adhesive spray. Good luck and let us know how this works out for you.

IMO if GTS owners think they are going to feel a dramatic difference in the cockpit temps by insulating the cats they are in for a disappointment. I have high flo cats and a corsa with insulated sills and it still gets plenty hot in the cockpit. Helped some, not huge.

Yea, some good points coming out now.

1. BOTH the original metalic and the Roe wrap go back on. The fit is tight (by design) but you should be able to get it all back together in under and hour.

2. The heat soak does work its way through. If you are letting the car idle standing still for a long time the sills will get hot. Having said that, the sills with some air flo do a great job.

3. The drone in a GTS is caused by the design of the empty space in the rear. Lets be clear on this. Stock cats are the quietest by far, Corsa is the quietest cat-back by far. Put them both on a Supercharged car and the exhaust is L-O-U-D too. Anybody tells you differently is just plain loosing their hearing.

4. Open sills...never did them only repeating what Sean told me.

when i did the HF cats the drone and sound got better.

but i dont care about heat in my GTS...its the yellow sills i find UNacceptable.

Reducing heat would be nice, but I don't want my sills to burst into flames with no insulation.

I removed cats and made my own vents, only 1/16" hole size out of steel and cut bent them to fit. I'm not going to say the cockpit is any cooler? but the side sills definitely are!! I don't have one but if you like I will post a photo of the vents

I even thought of just drilling holes in the plastic wheel well that is right behind the front wheel in a decent patern that didn't look to bad for a vent (maybe a viper logo) but who wants to start drilling into your Viper but you would have to cut it out to add the vents anyway.
just a thought
