Thats an old one...

Basically, it's a resistor that you install inline with your Intake Aircharge Temp. sensor, or IAT, that tricks the ECU into thinking that the car is running in a cooler air temp than it actually is. Therefore, the ECU just gets more aggressive with timing, fuel delivery, etc.

It's BS, basically. You can get a resistor at radio shack for 99 cents that can do the same thing.

Thank you for your reply.
Is this safe? If so what type of resistor do I need and how to do it?

Just remove your temp sender, put it in the fridge for a while, and measure the resistance. That should do it, right?

With all the usual reminders that you assume all risk for any mods, a 0-10K variable resister (radio shack) will allow you to drop your "temps" during summer (10K) and then back to normal during winter (0K).

I had to install one due to a unrelated problem. I had high RPM cutout and by adding a resistor to the IAT circuit I got rid of the problem.

10K resistance drops your readings 20-25 degrees F as I recall.

I think ambient from the IAT is around 8K ohms.

Now as to whether or not this is safe, I can't answer that. I can tune my Viper so I am not worried about effects of this mod. In a stock condition can't say.

IMHO, if you don't have the smooth tubes and K/N or other filter, do that and forget this.

The problem is in colder weather you will need to take it out.If you do not,it could cause pinging.
