Is this why 2000_Black_RT10 estimated $180,000?

This month's issue of the Society of Automotive Engineers magazine has an article about a Saleen prototype. Saleen "helped" with the Ford GT. Notice the similarities to 2000_Black_RT10's predicted Gen 5 Viper:
  • The Viper and S7 are steel frames and Saleen is looking to use more aluminum like the GT.
  • Using a tried and true engine; Ford supplied the 5.0L while Dodge supplies the V10.
  • Keeping the racing roots, mostly LeMans style.
  • Small scale design team via CATIA, Unigraphics... (who just did stress analysis of a front lower arm?)
  • Carbon fiber body.
  • For a sales volume of 500 per year, the current estimated price is $185,000
The bad news is the price is to rise to $225,000 to $250,000 when/if it reaches the market. Maybe somebody, perhaps with auto design experience, knows some more? I'd like to hear more about the marketing, target audience, and profitability!
