I think the issue is, which car is easier to go fast in. I believe that if you take "Joe the Guy", and drop him in each car for a lap or two he will do better in the Z06. The Viper, while faster, needs more driver skill/experience to go fast in.

Just to show that I'm not just a viper ****, and that I have a brain, I agree with No Mercy 1000%.
The Viper is hard to drive fast in the beginning.
I think Ron (SoCalRebell) is one of the most qualified to answer this question since he just edged a Z06 in a seven day race, but No Mercy speaks truth.
With the TCS and the probably-better ABS and the lower torque (still very high for a new driver, but the TCS takes care of him) you are not going to spin your Corvette, even on your first day.
On the other hand, if you start to push your viper hard for the first time, eventually you WILL spin. Then you'll be scared, and drive slower. Most of the viper owners I've spoken to directly on this board have spun at least once.
Like in the sport of motorcycling, I've found personally that Vipers come down to throttle control to keep the car on the road.
