Well, we finally got a Pole,as Tommy Archer qualifies Numero Uno on the Pole at Portland Intl. Raceway for tommorrow's World Challenge Race. Pretty cool to finally have a Viper back at the front and this is the first time we have gotten there ( the late, great Paul Mumford won at Laguna Seca , but he qualified third ). We didn't have as many Vipers entered this time, but Tommy put the lap together and this should make for one exciting race -unfortunately it won't be telecast until the first of August. Other Vipers ( including the GTS of Al Becerra ) qualified in the following positions:

Tim Wiens 10th
Jim McCann 11th
Mike McCann 15th
Bob Woodhouse 19th
Al Becerra 22nd

Super cool that Tommy won,and more important, this should put him way up there in the points. Anyone who knows, let us know , but with his consistent finishes , he could actually be in the lead.

Woodhouse got punted and spun out by Lou Gigliotti and his Vette -finished the race , but I imagine he will have some choice words for Mr. G., as Bob hasn't made it through a race without getting hit. SCCA seems to be pretty lax on enforcing the bump and run, which is alot different than in their other amatuer and pro series's,where clean driving is more rigidly enforced.

Mike McCann placed 5th, so what a super run for most of the Comp Coupes , and this should put Mike way up there in the lead for Rookie points - way to go Mikey!

.....Woodhouse got punted and spun out by Lou Gigliotti and his Vette -.......SCCA seems to be pretty lax on enforcing the bump and run, which is alot different than in their other amatuer and pro series's,where clean driving is more rigidly enforced.

AGREED! The punt happened right in front of us, and was NOT 'incidental racing contact'. The SCCA stewards actually instructed we corner / safety workers NOT to make judgements! Just report "car X hit car Y in the ___ at this location:____. Our stewards will use videos to make fault judgements."

This is contrary to virtually all other events, and WAY oppisite of the ALMS event, where fault was rigidly and aggerssively penalized. Bob, while charging ahead hard, was indeed robbed.

P.S. The Roberts Racing/Timberline/PartsRack car came in 8th over all. Our WC debut, and we are VERY happy. We were delighted to host a great dinner for ALL the Viper race teams and SRT on Sat nite, and we were in the champagne dampening in victory lane for Tommy. Great stuff. Dodge and Viper made a GREAT showing at Portland......

Thanks Dan and Jon for your updates, and hopefully we will see a change in how SCCA rules on contact at Mosport. Absolutely unreal to have a Viper in the points lead in a US Series again. Kudos to Tommy in his Whelen Engineering, 3R racing Comp Coupe!!!!!
