I assume you're talking about the rear tires. They are original and I know they need to go. I just hate replacing tires with good tread.

So you won't hate it when you are wrapped around a tree?

Remove the heels from the Viper and it will look great! =D

NEVER hold off on tires. So easy to lose everything just because of bad tires. Luckily I learned this in an 89 Corsica so it was no real loss, but 1 little hiccup due to bad traction and it is all over.

OK guys, I don't understand why he has to have 2 Trash cans, & why is one Green & the other Black?

We have 3 in my area of California. 1 for normal trash, 1 for recyclables and the other I believe is for yard trimmings / biodegradable trash such as fruit and veggies.

I was just making lite of the situation (because some of the other guys were) I actually have 2. As for the biodegradeable one goes, we're still not that far advanced here in La. (LOL) But the 1 requirement is that its got to be able to Float!

I will also plead you to get new tires. Not worth a life and bad ones HAVE cost Viper owners dearly. Other than that, you can't go wrong with a 97 GTS! (of course I am biased)

REPLACE TIRES, yes , I'm a ***** newbie who didnt, lost control accelerating in a corner, spun out and landed on someones lawn . I drove it home, and it did not look to bad. Well, $17,000 damage, 6 weeks later, got the car back. The scary part of it , was my cop friend went back and looked at the scene, he said I missed a pole by an inch. That could of changed everything. The owner of the shop I took it to knew exactly what happened. He said these run craps that are 8 yrs old , that only have 10,000 miles on them, are like hockey pucks, hard as rock. Sorry to rant , but I ignored warnings I read from this board. Now I am paying the price.

alright boys. I'll set up an appt. for some new meat! I just need to decide if I'm going to change out the fronts for a matching set of Michelins. I think they have some $70 rebate if I get a set of 4 tires right now. maybe I can sell those Nexen 275s. they're only a year or 2 old and low mileage.

You won't be sorry, is not just a safety thing,, its Fun thing also, you'll have a lot more fun driving the viper with good tires. It's a totally different car.

Slippery is a good way to describe how my RT/10 felt with the original tires (10 years old) when I bought the car. It was almost uncontrollable on secondary roads, as the front tires wanted to follow any road irregularity like old bias ply tires. Taking off in first without being heavy on the gas was an experience. The rear tires could not get any grip.

A few weeks after I bought the Viper, I put on fresh PS2s and was shocked at the difference it made. Totally transformed how the car accelerated, cornered, went in a straight line, everything.

And yes, Michelin had the $70 rebate on 4 tires then too. Had to laugh as that is a drop in the bucket with overall cost.

Everyone is right. I wouldn't drive it, until you've changed out the tires. Doesn't matter how much tread you still have. They should be changed out every three to four years regardless of tread wear. I recently acquired my 2002 GTS with only 8100 on the odometer. The tires were original and dated 2001. I drove the car home and parked it. Then I got four new tires. After that, I changed out "All" of the fluids. But the tires were the most important replacement. Lots of tread remaining, but hard as diamonds in the rough. New tires = new ride. But more importantly, new tires = safe ride.

So, change out the tires ..... and enjoy the ride.:2tu:

Well luckily I listened to the guys on here, I just bought my car with 7,900 miles & brand new looking tires & all I read on here was get rid of those tires (10 years old). Do you know how hard it is to get rid of tires that LOOK brand new, well I wanted to find out what the big deal was everybody was talking about, BUT I waited till there was no other cars around, no mailboxes, no trees, just wide open space & I stepped on it jus a lil' & before I knew it the rear end was facing where the front end was supposed to be (scared the crap out of me) It Happens so quick you don't even know was going on! But if I had been in traffic & done that I would have got hit head on & I don't want to know the rest. Next day I ordered new tires & its like Night & Day Difference. Old tires are like driving on ICE! & down here in La. I'm not used to driving on icy roads. JMO

appt. setup for Tuesday. all new Michelins. anybody need some very low mileage Nexen 275/40s? sometimes my logic scares me "i'll spend another $500 on the front tires and i'll get the $70 michelin gift card" I guess I just wanted a matched set of new meat. wonder if I can get them to throw on some Eibachs while they're in there :) I noticed tirerack had the springs just $309.

If your going to drive it on the street, thing twice about lowing it..

Also do be to quick to judge the new tires, you have to drive them long enough to get the mold release off.
Driving home from the tire store, I thought that didn't any good...
50 miles later they were gripping...
