It\'s on its way Arrow.....now work your magic!!!!

Yesterday my engine was crated and sent to Arrow for a rebuild. I ordered new hoses (both radiator and heater) as well as a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing to be installed with the engine. None of the above were really in bad shape, I just thought it would be prudent to replace them when they were accessible.

I had thought of an aluminum flywheel too, but I've heard too many conflicting opinions.

I had it brought back to my garage via a tilting flatbed truck.

Over the next few weeks I plan to detail the engine compartment. Question: What's the best method? Clean by hand with with solvent? Wash with laundry detergent and pressure wash? Wash by hand and simply rinse with a hose?

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Don, do you have the details of what Arrow will do?

Are you getting this done under warranty?

Tomer,

Yes, I have an extended warranty so I'll pay only $100. Of course I'll spring for the cost of the new hoses, etc.

It's my understanding that Arrow sends a printout of exactly what they found and the remedial action(s) they took.

I'll try the Simple Green as suggested.

Thanks for the interest Jeff.

Where do I get an extended warr like that. My 94 has no problems and hope to never have any. My car has 22k and I am the 2nd owner, the car as of now has never been I the shop for more than maintenance. If I can purchase a warranty still I would be interested. Chad

My engine goes to Arrow this week. If you own a '94 I would strongly recommend springing for the warranty. As someone has said on this board about '94's needing the rebuild, it's not if your going to need it, it's when.

Don I followed your procedure. I didn't get a list of fixes, but the crank was new. New Crank means, just about, new everything. Some claim their motors come back stronger. I could not feel a power difference. The rebuild does idle a lot smoother (not that I care.)

GCHDEALER,

you might want to talk to chuck tator aka "viper wizard".. he has taken care of more than a few members extended warranty purchasing needs.. definitely worth the money..

as far as the head gasket is concerned, late in the 94 model year the head gasket material was changed, so if you have a late 94 you might be lucky.. have your tech inspect the block for coolant tracks...

I was very fortunate in that the original owner sprang for an extended 7/70 warranty when he purchased the car in March, 1994. That carried it through March, 2001. I learned that Chrysler offered an additional extended 4/48 warranty (beyond the 7/70), with the caveat that it be purchased prior to the expiration of the 7/70 and the vehicle have less than 60K miles. The price was in the $1900 range for a $100 deductible policy.

I now have an 8 year old vehicle with another 3 years of warranty remaining!

However, I too am interested in obtaining information on other extended warranties for older Vipers.

Chuck, if you have any information in this area, please share it with us.

As a new owner of a 94 you can still purchase a 4/48 warranty from DC.

If your an original owner of a 94 and you've had an extended warranty you can't get another one.

Eddie, Thank you!

Chad, If you want, give me a call and I'll give you a price on a warranty.

Don, Forget the aluminum flywheel

Send your flywheel to "EMI RACING", Huntington, CA and have them shave 6 or 7 lbs. off! It's safer!!

As for detailing while your engine is out, I would polish that HUGE aluminum brace that sits right in front of the motor...

I saw a thread of someone who polished it by hand with the engine in, and it was a nice improvement...

Re: It\'s on its way Arrow.....now work your magic!!!!

Here is what Arrow sent me when they rebuilt my engine,(they call it a failure report):

ARROW RACING
ENGINES INC.
FAILURE REPORT

RV102991

Upon receipt of the engine, we found some things wrong. Both cylinder head gaskets were leaking coolant and the thermostat crossover was leaking too. The main housing bore was out of spec by .0001 to .0003 and had to be align honed to repair. Flywheel needed to be replaced.
The block was sent back to the original manufacture for counter bores and redecking.
The engine was then reassembled using all new parts including the crankshaft, camshaft with lifters, piston/rod assemblies, cylinder liners, timing chain set, front cover with oil pump, thermostat, water pump, rod and main bearings, spark plugs and wires. With new gaskets and seals, the rebuild is complete.
The engine was then sent to our dyno shop for a two-hour break in period with three W.O.T. power runs to confirm the engine met the rated horsepower and torque numbers. A cylinder leak down and compression test was preformed, and a special oberg oil filter was inspected and after a final check for any external oil leaks the engine was prepared for return shipment.

Arrow will include a "break-in procedure checklist" when they return your engine to the dealer...make sure you get it!

Bottom line, I love my new Arrow engine!!!!!

I have not installed a aluminum flywheel myself, but I have talk with many who have: Lose of torque, clutch fitting problems, center breaker out, starter ring gear separation, warpedge/distorting....
I don't think I'm going to install any.
Shave you stock flywheel.
