I'm posting this here because I don't know siht about the modern vipers and I don't consider myself a "new Owner".... (Mods, please move if you think it should go elsewhere....) Sorry I can't give you my life story yet... I hear you need to soak for 6666 posts first... (but it starts with something rocking way back in Jan. of '65).......

As some of you may know, I've been posting here for a year now. I want to let you guys (and girls) know I've finally decided to join the VCA and sent off my dues and application yesterday... I've owned a viper for quite a while (I currently drive a '94) but never seriously considered joining the club because I had a bad experience years ago with the Z-car club (a story for another time). Also, I work terrible hours and can't make any local viper gatherings without taking leave time.....It just seemed like the forum here was as good as it would get.. and it's free for viper lovers!!!! Long live the VCA!!

My name is Jim. I'm 43, married and have two boys. My wife hates my car but she knows I liked machines/mechanics before I met her..(humm... not so sure I should post that).. I fell in love with the gen 1 way back when it was just a concept and haven't found a way over it yet.... So, here I am now. I spent some time in the other viper forum a few years ago and was quickly turned off so I started lurking here..... I live in northern Virginia just outside Washington DC. The area is crowded but I can find time to hit the open roads thanks to my terrible work schedule. Heck, my idea of a good cruise usually includes an overnight stay these days.... If anyone near me wants to go for a really cool run - let me know!! I know every road for hundereds of miles around!!

As for work: .. I'm a Universal CFC and 1st class licensed Steam Engineer in DC and MD and a Facilities Engineer with extensive datacenter experience. I operate a multiredundant, mission critical datacenter for Citigroup. We run a 23MW power generating station consisting of (6) V-18 diesels and (3) turbines. These are big engines! There are (2) 14KV feeders and (6) 1.8MW UPS systems, numerous power distribution units, a 4000 ton chiller plant, and over 90 Liebert CRACs and ... Not to bore you but this is a serious operation that processes a large share of the Federal Transfer Network.... The chiller plant plumbing alone is a mechanical wonder as far as redundancy is concerned....Enough of my resume' ....... Anyone need a qualified datacenter Facilities Engineer??? The bad ju-ju is getting a bit old here....

I've really enjoyed these forums over the last year and decided to join the VCA because I like you guys and hope to meet some of you eventually. I'm drinking a beer in BB Dave's honor right now..., and thinking about trying to make the Niagara trip. Unfortunately, my vacation time is limited. We all know there's never enough vacation time......

Thank you all for the friendly comments and free assistance. I intend to stay around for a while.

Haha, I'd post a pic but I know miss juli would ****** it for the Beefcake thread even though I'm ugly as sin.....LOL

Congrats on the decision to join the VCA. I was in the club for 2 yrs before I got on the forum (didn't have a computer then). The forum is great, meeting members in person is even greater. BTW, my wife (one of the Viper Twins) loves the car. Take your wife to a VCA event to meet some of the other spouses.

This is good news and can't wait to see your avatar once you get rolling here.

Many events and cruises that happen in your area (Like the crab feast) will give you a chance to meet up with some of the other Viper owners.;) Well worth the price of admission.

Welcome to da VCA!

I'm not sure congrats are really in order here. As I see it, I'm now paying for something I could still get for free! .. That makes me an idiot in some folks' books!!! ... However, I am a viper owner and have been for a long time (since'99 I think)... The knowledge I've found here is worth more than the cost of VCA membership!

I told myself last year when I signed up that I'd give it a year... Well, they say you stay for the people but I've met just 2 local owners (neither were VCA members). 3 if you include the guy I sold my '95 to two years ago.. But, I decided to pay up anyway for the forum and the "perks"(wonder what they are?). I figured I'd wait and see... I do hope to meet up with some of you one of these days... BTW, I work evenings and weekends. You may see me around the Wash.DC area roads in the mornings or Thurs/Fridays.... in my '94.
:drive:

You're killin' me! All that stuff happens on weekends (for obvious reasons).. I have a good amt. of leave time but I hate to use it for days spent locally. (I have family etc. too afterall) .... However, I took a few days last month to run down to the the "Dragon" and I may head up to Niagara with my wife for that event... looks really fun.

Jim,

Welcome to the VA/MD Club. I haven't seen your registration come across the computer yet, but I remember exchanging PM's with you a while back. Your work schedule makes it tough to participate in most events, hence why I never badgered you to join. I have always felt the VCA is not for everybody, but we try to tailer our events to provide enjoyment for all types of owners. Even if attending local events is out of the question, there are still many other benefits you get through National and Member only specials from Vendors.

Are you looking for work? I actually have some connections at a few of the local data centers. Northern Virginia is riddled with Data Centers.

If you enjoyed the Tail of the Dragon, plan on taking the weekend of October 10-11th for the Two Day Fall Cruise. PM your email address and I will have Kelly add you to the membership server so that you will get group emails regarding upcoming events.

If I can be of any help, let me know.
