i was cruising around with my friends on saturday night and we stop at McDonalds for some food. However there are a crowd of guys outside and they ask for rides, so i gladly take them around the lot and whatnot. The only problem was taht i didnt get anything to eat, so we went to 7-11 to get something else. 7-11 in my town on a saturday night is crazy. All the kids from the other high school hang out there. So anyway, i pull in and the only spot available is next to this silver 2002 Z06. The guys was great he must have been about 35. He asked me to pop the hood and he popped his it was fun. Plus one of my friends has a modded mustang cobra so he had his hood up too. It was literally a scene out of a 2 year old motor trend; vette, viper, mustang. There must have been a crowd of 50 or more people. So I ask my friend to keep an eye on the car while I go in for some food. I come out and everything seems alright. The next morning I realize that my stereo remote is GONE! I immediately have to assume that someone jacked it the night before. Who would steal a stereo remote? What good would it do them? Its just a remote. Anyways I am now a little sketchy about leaving the car with the top down when there is a big crowd around. RIDICULOUS

I put in a proximity sensor so that it would beep when someone puts their hand in the car. In your situation, I probably would not have turned it on since your friend was there, but I will not be so trusting in the future.

I installed a proximity sensor and flamethrowers on the sides of my Viper. If anyone gets too close, they will light up like a Christmas tree. Kind of James Bondesque.

Motor602,

There's a term for those sort of people over here in SoCal, they're call "Haters". Prime example: I was headed down the 126 from Ventura towards Valencia (Magic Mountain area). For anyone who dosen't know this area, it's a pretty desolate highway through the mountains with the occasional scattered town. It was a georgeous Saturday afternoon, the sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky; the perfect day for a cruise. I'm going maybe 10 MPH over the limit (with the traffic have you) for most of the drive. As I drive through one of these hole in the wall towns, I pass a CHP officer. No big deal, I'm pleasantly going along with traffic. As I look in my rearview, I see the cop flip a b@tch and race to catch up to me. Great. I pull over and the cop comes to the passenger side. "Morning sir, do you know why I pulled you over" says the man with the funny hat. "Actually, no" I replied. "Well, we've had SEVERAL people call into the station claiming that you were exceeded in the speed limit, driving recklessly across the yellow divider, and running people off the road". Huh? As I gave the man my registration and license, FOUR (4) additional cruisers pulled in behind the first. Do I look like Geoffrey Dahlmer? Did Krispy Kreme run out of jelly? ***? Did these guys think I was going to run or what? As I'm sitting there, several cars passed with their occupants yelling out the window. I'm assuming these were the a-holes that called in the complaint. Long story short, the guy asked me to slow down and I went on my way. Moral of the story, PEOPLE ****. Who would really CALL the cops as they're driving down the road cause the get passed by a guy in a sports car? Haters...When I get my little corner office in hell with the window overlooking the flames they'll be sorry...

I was going 25mph on a 30mph road. I was making a right turn up ahead. 3 State Troopers were standing there coordinating traffic and what not, and just as I was about to make the turn (using my turn signals), the cop asks me to pull over. He asks me why I'm not wearing my seatbelt, and then tells me I have a beautiful car. He then asks me IF I SELL DRUGS!!!
confused.gif
I laugh, wear my seatbelt, and ignore him. He tells me to drive on.

Is is just me, or are all State Troopers just out to get us nice car owners?! Just because I'm young, he immediately assumes that I sell drugs?! That just shows how these "Troopers" are ignorant, rude, and highly inconsiderate

Two days later, I get pulled over by a local cop just as I was pulling out of school at 10pm, for doing 50mph in a 30mph. I pull over, and the first thing he says is "beautiful car", and then tells me "dont worry I'm not going to give u a ticket, only a warning"!!! After issueing the warning, he spends 5 minutes asking me about the car and the exhaust and mods. Thats a guy that earned my respect! He was courteous, respectful, and friendly. I just wish all State Troopers were like this cop.

95% positive.

5% negative.

These 5% will never change, we just gotta live with'em. Don't let it get you down, and try to avoid them if possible - or just kick'em in the nuts.

I recently had that happen in my Sol. I was driving well above the posted limit, but I'm a very courteous driver (Never tailgate, always use turn signals, wave when someone lets me in, ect...) and someone reported me in for reckless driving. Luckily I knew the cop who pulled me over (even luckier: he knew me) and he immediately let me go.

Us Ricers are in the same boat (of course ours aren't fountains, but dingy's have motors too).

Ugh...that story about the cops pulling you over because people call in makes me sick, seriously.

I've had so many problems with traffic cops...all my life....I've had to learn to let it go.

Suffice it to say that I think(know), at times, there is dishonesty in the profession.

BUT, as of the 13th, my record is clean for the first time in 20 years. HALLELUJIA

I have absolutely NO qualms with police officers. They defiantly have a tough job and deserve a certain amount of respect. Wearing a uniform myself, I realize the "all cops are a$$holes" stereotype is way off base. If I get pulled over for a legitimate offense, I realize that I'm the reason I'm in that situation. The cop is just doing his job to the best of his abilities. My problem relies directly on these individuals that are so unfulfilled in their own lives that they feel it's their right to try and destroy or discredit another. These f#$%-sticks need to take a good hard look in the mirror....then go jump off the nearest bridge. (As long as I'm not driving under it at the time)

Let me fill you guys in on a dirty little secret: I speak from knowledge, as my brother is a Pittsburgh police officer and my best bud is a cop as well.

-THEY COULD GIVE A R*TS AS* ABOUT YOU SPEEDING, unless you are seriously endangering the public. The only reason the majority of police even write traffic violations, is so they get MORE court time. Of course they only go to court if the perpetrator decides to fight the ticket, which many people do. Court time is OVERTIME in most police departments, and they get paid time and a half and sometimes double time. Not to mention if my brother/friend only has 1 court case scheduled for that day, and is there for 5 minutes, he gets paid for 4 hours minimum. Wouldn't you do the same if you were only making 30-40K a year, and with a little court time that amount is boosted to 60K??? I'm not saying ALL police departments are set up exactly like this, but I have never heard any differently. Yeah, getting tickets p*sses me off too, but this is the reality of the situation.

**** I'm screwed, they can pull you over on any given day for complaints filed against you? That is ********, I just figured a complaint did no good and they couldn't give you a ticket for a complaint called into the station. I wonder how many people have complained about my driving, uh oh.

Tie, unfortunately for some of us that loophole doesn't exactly fly. I was pulled over and ticketed twice for "Exhibition of speed" in my Z28 because someone called it in. To make matters worse I was "Exhibiting Speed" but doing burnouts in a mall parking lot which is "supposed" to be non-enforceable as well. If you don't have the ability (read: afford) a good lawyer (and the cop knows it) they can walk all over you. Most here on the board will probably never be in that situation, but I'm currently fighting my fourth situation in court in two weeks. I was "paced" doing 80 while standing outside my truck filling up the tank. Two witnesses and a camera still won't save my butt so I'll be losing my insurance and job here shortly. I'm as courteous and polite as I can be I still ALWAYS met the aholes.....

This is so coincidental. This morning I got a warning ticket in the parking lot of my workplace. The officer was camped out on the street in front because of a called-in complaint. He said,"It's about a red Viper. I'm not saying it is your Viper." Yeah, right.

Nice guy though. We ended up talking for 20 minutes.

The warning stays in their database forever.

Without details, the street is two lanes but four lanes wide, nobody around at 6:00 AM, speed limit 35. I wasn't going that fast

It's not the cost of the remote, you feel violated!

Unfortunately, the 1-out-of-50 crowd had somebody that had NO regard for other people's property. Which means, 49 of them can appreciate a hard working guy that owns a Viper, but 1 of them couldn't care less and found you easy prey. Next time keep that 1 rotten individual honest by locking up your personal property so you won't have to waste useful energy wondering how a person can be so deceitful.

I feel your pain,
Doug

So tell me what the law says about burnouts in a store parking lot? Do the people who own the lot have to complain? Are all trafic laws enforsable on private property? If so what keeps the cops from ticketing people at the drag strip? There must be some law that covers this. If you are a cop then what is the wording of the law that gives the police the authority to enforce trafic laws on private property? Can I get a ticket for burn outs in my driveway? I don't mean disturbing the peace, I mean a traffic ticket. Why would cops enforce traffic laws in a mall parking lot when they won't patrol the mall itself unless you hire them to do it.

"Do the people who own the lot have to complain"? no

"Are all trafic laws enforsable on private property"? no

"If so what keeps the cops from ticketing people at the drag strip?" a license to operate the raceway.

Q. what happens to a Bar if it sells alcoholic beverages?
A. nothing, because they have a license from the city/state.

Q. what happens if you sell alcohol out of your garage?
A. no license so you get cited.

"There must be some law that covers this". see above

"If you are a cop then what is the wording of the law that gives the police the authority to enforce trafic laws on private property"?.i'm not a cop, Ahaa research it and read it for yourself it is easy to do at any library/internet.

"Can I get a ticket for burn outs in my driveway? I don't mean disturbing the peace, I mean a traffic ticket." depends mostly on what is occurring around your vehicle at the time of the burnout, no not disturbing the peace, yes if cited.

"Why would cops enforce traffic laws in a mall parking lot when they won't patrol the mall itself unless you hire them to do it".state laws rule parking lots as "private property in which the public is expected access" only certain laws are enforceable in this instance, being that of dui, reckless driving or any instance of homicide by vehicle. the mall itself is responsible for onsite security that is why they have security guards.

No flames are intended, law is a dry subject and I tend to write straight to the point. Dont take my word for anything, read it for yourself and you can be better protected from making mistakes.
Cheers
