Maryland DOT is liable for the damage. It is their responsibility to assure that the roads are free of rockfall debris. At least that's the case here in Arizona.

My First Thought as well! A debris fence should contain that scree (talus?). Sure, your own comprehensive insurance may cover it, but I would be calling MD-DOT "Risk management office" and see how they want to handle this. The police report is a start. If your insurace company is any good, they can advise you on this...... INSIST in filing a MD-DOT Claim, and do it ASAP

You probably damaged more, hopefully 1/8 mile shutoff = no problems, probably NOT. Rear suspension? Even the underbody due to fire. Be sure you keep this claim open til everything is buttoned up and tested.....

My GOD!!! You hit that rock so hard, you knocked it right out of its' shoe!!!! That's horrible!

Just kidding....sometimes in moments of darkness (like when you're covered in oil), a little humor helps. ;)

That looks pretty messy, I hope you're able to get 'er back on the road in time to enjoy the awesome series of events the club has this year.

I would tell your insurance that the rock was falling (in motion) when you hit it.
If it was just laying in the road they will say it is your fault for hitting a stationary object.
I went through his battle with Allstate when I hit block of wood with my Viper, my agent was nice enough to tell me this info.

Best advice yet, been there done that, lost the battle for exactly that reason.
