Since I'm tall, I got the fixed set, with the 2" drop. I didn't exactly follow the procedures! Hardest part was getting the lower seat cushion bail rods back in place, with seat installed. (You can't put them back in place until the seat is installed, because you need access to the seat pan, to bolt the pan to the standoff spacers) I think this job took me more than two hours, but I was not rushing at all, just kind of shuffling through it all..

The results? Outstanding! I should have done this from day one! Now I can see the traffic lights without ducking my head down. And the seating position feels real BAAAAD, like a low rider, laid back, and feeling kuuuuuwl. I can even open the door and just lean my head straight out (without ducking) to spit! It was worth it just for that! Seriously though, the car feels great to sit in now, and I can see much more than before. Very enjoyable.

For the skip shift disable, again, I didn't follow the instructions. (I didn't remove the belly pan!) I just jacked the car up on the driver's side, (front and rear) reached up along side the tranny, and blindly undid the harness connector from the skip shift solenoid with my long mechanic/guitarist fingers! I could hear the crowd roaring in adulation! Then stuck the disabler on the tranny, and the other end of it on the harness. Done in 15 minutes flat, including putting the jacks away, no special Viper floor jack, no auto lift. Hip-Hip, Hooray!

No more anoying skip shift to wrestle with!

Thanks, guys. I feel much better.

Tony, can you point me to that thread? Wait, I'll go search it first. I'm even lazy when I'm sitting down!

What's all this talk about a skip shift- isn't that an annoying little troll that pops on when you don't leave the line aggresively?- personally haven't seen this pest much as I always use the gas pedal as it was designed for

Vic,

I think you really need the kudos for the hardship of installing the seat lowering kit. It is really a bear to get it all into place. I know because I had to do it twice, once to install the kit, and once to install it again after replacing my stock harness with the Team Techs.

Larry

P.S. Thanks JonB for the Team Techs. You are the best!

I agree. I see these posts and wonder if my car even has the skip shift feature. I can barely make it appear when I try. (And why should I do that?) I just don't get the concern.

BTW I had Dave Jenkins install the skip shift in my car last Tuesday. I rarely shift early but the 2nd gear lockout has caught me by surprise more than few times. Now I don't have to worry about it.

Dave also installed the Roe clutch thingy to lower the pedal. I like it alot. He also installed my 993 Porsche air deflectors for the front brakes, and the Apex pedals. I removed the throttle pedal when I got home because it interfered with my ability to heel/toe and I was going to Willow Springs the next morning. I like the clutch and brake pedals though.

In LA, you don't often get to go past second gear! Lots of stop and go traffic. But actually, I don't drive my Viper in rush hour much. What really irks me, is when I am thinking about something else, and casually just following the car in front of me when the light turns green, and suddenly I am losing momentum, because I can't get it into second. Makes you look like a dork in traffic, which is no stretch for me.

If I am in clear traffic, or even if I am using the tiniest little bit of gray matter while shifting, it is easy to avoid the skip shift wrestle. But I would just as well like to go ahead and defeat the thing, so it cannot rear its ugly head again, and I can go back to my sonambulant state of bliss.

Wow, twice?? Twice the fun!!

At first I thought the kit didn't fit, cause the holes in the seat pan didn't match up with the holes in the spacers, when the spacers were pointing straight fore and aft.

Things started to come into focus, when the standoff spacers are angled away from the tunnel, increasing the distance between the thread holes, and only then the spacer holes line up with the holes in the seat pan. A subltle but important point. I only freaked out a little, cause I'm basically patient. Unless I am getting impatient, cause then I'm fuming. But I digress.

Vic,
I too am tall 6'3". I did the seat lowering kit install but found the kit lost the bucket effect I liked and I lost thigh support. I took case hardened washers and used about 1.5" worth and a longer front bolt to return the bucket effect while retaining the lower rear. It works great.

Yeah, thanks Ted. I was thinking of doing the same thing before our (SO CAL VCA) trip to Santa Barbara. Three hours of driving on the small of my back is not a very attractive proposition. Washers sounds like the hot ticket to tilt the front of the pan up, and support some body weight with the front of the seat. Thanks for the suggestion.

Give me call when you are going. I have some weekend time now.

I'll be at Chrysler Neighborhood care about 7:30 or so. Dan Jenkins is leading the Southern O.C. boys to Krispy Kreme from there.

I installed the adjustable Northwind seat lowering
kit and like any self respecting male, I did not use
the directions. Directions are just another males
opinion
smile.gif
.

I removed the seat from the car, removed the springs
under the seat, attach the new rails to the seat without
removing the seat upholstery, reinstalling the seat
springs and then installing the seat with the rails
already on it back into the car. This worked out well
because I had to loosen some of Northwinds hardware in
order to get the rails to line up with the holes in
the seat.

Thirty minute project.

Well, nah-nah-nah-nah-na-na!

Yeah, it took you thirty minutes,
hail[1].gif
but you had rails that aligned the bolt holes for you, so there!

The 2" fixed kit has four separate pieces that float around, and it takes a little jackazzin' around to get 'em all lined up soes the bolts go in the holes. And while I had it jacked up, I inspected the undercarriage stuff, too.
Also, the fixed kit is so low to the floor that I couldn't have gotten my BIG, MANLY HAND under the seat to tighten the bolts the way YOU did!

Just kidding!
