Just picked up a Viper (pics included)

Hello all! I just recently picked up an 06' Coupe off ebay with 10k miles and a clean carfax. The car ended up being in perfect condition and exactly what I wanted. I really enjoy driving the viper, it's 100% stock down to the original run flat tires. The Michelin tires are the weak link though and don't hook up in 1st or 2nd gear as I'm sure you all already know. I plan on going with Nitto Invo tires along with a fresh set of CCW's. The only question I have for now is where do I buy 3.55 gears at? Overall, I find the car to be amazing and a blast to drive. I've had a fairly fast car for about 10 years (800+ hp) before the viper but have never experienced so much torque so low in the power band before and I'm still getting use to it.

Congrats on the new car. I have the exact same car and have had it for 3 years now, mine had 3200 miles when I got her and now has 5800 miles. I love the car and puts a big smile on my face everytime i drive it. This year I put new Michelin PS2 on it and wow what a difference from the runcraps. I could not believe a set of tires could make that much difference in a car. A friend of mine had Nitto's and there was little difference from the runcraps but i bought Michelins through the VPA (Great Deal) and wow what a difference. Enjoy your new ride and treat her with respect.

Go to PartsRack and see a comparo on PS2s versus Super Sports. The Super Sports are harder compound (they last longer) but still hold up very well on the track. I just bought a new set from JonB last week.

CCW was a pleasure to deal with. I got the wheels with the tires mounted in a package deal from them. I had PS2's, but I can tell you now that the Super Sports hook up better. Congratulations!

A word of caution on the CCWs. They look great, but being polished aluminum they are also the hardest rims to keep clean that I've ever owned. On a fair weather car like a Viper that's easier to handle than how I put them on my DD.

Thx. John ended up talking me out of the invo's and I went with the super sports, great steet tire by the way. Yes the ccw's do require work to keep them shiny. I had the same set on my supra but in 18s. I treat them as I do a painted surface when I wash the car, then dry as to not leave water marks. I hit them with aluminum polish every once and a while. They are more work vs a chrome dipped rim but worth it in my opinion because you don't have to worry about the chrome or wheel paint flaking or chipping. I also rashed one of them on the supra and ended up buffing it out myself to where it looked like new, not something possible with chrome on your own. I don't daily drive the viper so the maintenance is very easy so far.

Here is a tip on those polished wheels. Whenever you wash and dry them off, hit them with a quick layer of automotive wax on a microfiber cloth. Every time you wash them. This will form a simple protective layer on them to keep water from beading up on them, and prevent the natural oxidation of aluminum (dulling) in air. Then you'll never have to polish them.

I'd pull that silver "DODGE" emblem off the bumper. Stands out too much. The rear emblems are supposed to be body color.

Just an FYI to other readers, CCW will arrange for powder coat finishes (At least they offered that when I bought mine a few years ago.)
