I think we had a discussion about this at one time. One individual said K&N told him they actually filter better when they're a little dirty. They don't need to be cleaned very often.
At about 20K miles I cleaned mine as well. They were pretty gunky and even had some bugs in them.
I sprayed the cleaner on them. Let it soak. Scrubbed them out. Rinsed them out. Let them dry. As the post above stated, drying can take a pretty long time. (Maybe an hour or so) Then you spray the oil on until they're nice and pink.
Viola, clean filters. Pretty easy.
