I have a 2001 RT-10 and am thinking about getting the K&N filters and smooth tubes put on (I have the filters, just not installed yet). I was planning to put them on but then some people told me that it was a waste to remove the original filters since they are new, that the performance improvement is not noticeable and that it may actually be bad for the car if it goes over a puddle and ***** in water (or something to that effect). I am not exactly mechanically inclined and I am very careful with my car. Any thoughts on whether I should leave it as is (completely stock) or should I change the filter to the K&Ns

Change the filters and tubes. The performance effect is significant (though probably not SOTP noticeable) and there's no added danger of sucking in water/debris/etc. Realize that the ACR model comes *stock* with exactly that K&N + tubes setup.

On my '01 RT/10, swapping tubes & filters took the car from 408 RWHP / 442 RWTQ to 415 RWHP / 448 RWTQ.

Cheers,
Ben

Go with the S&B filters they are a better quality, and definetely the smooth tubes.

I agree with GONABITE.

I compared K&N's side by side to S&B's and the quality difference is there. Matter of fact if you laid them down not knowung which is which you wouldn't pick K&N.

They along with smoothies made a BIG difference for my GENI. Immediate difference in throttle response, SOTP feel is questionable and gas mileage went up. All in all it is a MUST for the Viper.
