Yeah, but with the air filter we have now, we WERE going to buy K&N, but we'll stick with the stock filter. Unbelievably we're staying STOCK with the 2009, just as we intended with the '08.
:) Nothing seems to need to be changed~! ~juli

Herb said they spent alot of time on the stock filter getting the flow right, I wonder if the K&N would really be worth it.

Plus doesn't the 08/09 pcm throw a code on aftermarket filters.

It's worth some minor gains.... I've done before and after dynos with the stock filter vs no filter (12HP), and stock filter vs the RX-8 K&N filter (7-8HP).... gains were across the powerband...

Thanks for posting. Here is the e-mail I just sent K&N:

"Thanks for releasing an airfilter for 2008-2009 Dodge Vipers with the 8.4 L engine, part no. 33-2432. Two questions: What are the hp and torque gains with this filter and did you ever see the filter causing check engine lights on the car?

Again, thanks for your help."

I will report back with their response.

Glad you took the time to send this to K&N but I highly doubt they tested it, or do they test each new product? Seems like it would be difficult to find a Gen 4 Viper and take the time to do all this. Let us know though.

Actually, I spoke with a K&N engineer asking about a new filter when the 2008s first came out. I remember him telling me that they were looking for a customer donor car to develop the filter. If you look on their website, they actually solicit customer cars to do their development work. As an incentive, I think they send you one of the first products off the line as well some other minor gifts when they are done with the car. So my expectation is that they did in fact develop this on a Gen IV. The question remains what, if any, gains the K&N engineers saw when they tested the car.

I have had the K&N airfilter on my 08 Coupe for over a month now.Had car at the dealer yesterday, the car runs excellent and the filter fits perfect in the air box.The car responds much better and NO Check Eniine Light at all.If you have a Gen.4 Viper, get the filter. It is the best 50.00 bucks you will spend.

how does k&n compare to the green air filter?

Ah yes, we did that comparo with our '05...the winner? GREEN filter...though I couldn't tell you from DYNO results...just SOTP feel...and caught more minuscule fragments...just our own experience. We also had the K&N Cold Air Intake for awhile...added about 7-10 rwhp dyno'ed. (Same, on 2005) ~juli

Your finding about the CEL is helpful, but how long (miles) since you've had the filter installed?

As for "the car responds much better"... HUH? Not meant as any criticism, but I'm clueless as to what the heck that means. I also can not believe that you can "feel" any change from just an air filter...especially if the BEST expectation is the it MAY result in 10HP over 5,000 RPM. That's not to say I wouldn't buy one just to POSSIBLY help the engine breath very slightly better at very high RPMs. But you've got to have some SUPER sensitive ass cheeks to actually feel anything other than the extra space in your pocket from the removal of 5 Hamilton's.

I have the 'super-sensitive-ass-cheeks'...lol...Mike must also, as he preferred the Green Filters too.;)
(Like I said, we didn't have a dyno with the Green, but we did with the K&N, yes K&N added 7-10rwhp)

With a good intake/filter you can usually "feel" the difference on throttle. The throttle tip-in gives a more immediate response, the car pulls a bit harder, the rpms race up faster and there is usually a bit different sound.

I will wait for the K & N response from the poster before ordering!

Yes, one CAN feel the SOTP difference...one would've had to have had one of the previous ones to compare to (green first, then K&N; vice versa)...see if you 'feel' a difference...we did. (With our very sensitive ass cheeks of course! :*****:) ~juli

I'm not going to make an issue of this (was never my intent), but I too am ready to buy (heck, I'm pretty much ready to buy most ANYTHING for my Viper that's under $75 LOL).

I hope they actually do respond.
