I just installed my enhanced K&N's. The instructions tell you to disconnect the negative ground from the electrical box. When I finished installation. (Easy job = 30 minutes.) the key fob would not release the door.
Seems that after disconnecting the battery, the security system keeps your viper saftely locked up.
I needed to use the super secret manual door key to get in. Once inside the car started right up, and now the doors operate perfectly.
Maybe a good idea to leave your door open until you reconnect the battery.
New K&N's fit well, and do not whistle.

Speaking of electrical questions while installing K&N's...did anyone ever come up with an answer concerning the loss of Skip Shift function stated below in Brian's thread??? Thanks in advance.

I also installed the K&N filter kit. I have the whistle about 15 seconds after starting the vehicle and it goes away when the temp. gage reads about 150 deg.

When I installed my kit I disconnected the battery per the written instructions.
After driving the car I have found that my skip shift doesnt activate anymore. The yellow light ( and red light ) come on when you turn the key to the on position, during its self diagnostic check.
I talked to a couple Viper techs about this and no one can seem to come up with an answer as to why this happened. Disconnecting the battery is the only thing anyone can think of that could have caused this. I have driven about 125 miles since the install and have no check engine light and the car runs great.
I definately dont miss it. ( its a 3 mile drive at 15 mph to get out of our neighborhood )

I got a couple e-mails from other guys who also have no skip shift after K&N install. One guy disconnected his battery, the other didnt.
I called K&N Thursday and talked to TONY, he said he would pass it along to their tech support.
I forgot to ask about enlarging the ****** to 1/2 inch. Will call again Tuesday.
BTW I dont miss the skip shift, just really curious to know why it disappeared.
Chuck the Viper Wizard suggested I take the car to the dealer and have them connect the DRB and see if the skip shift is turned on in the PCM. Believe it or not I thought of that and had already went to my local dealer who said they needed a special card for the DRB to be able to work on the Viper so they couldnt check it for me. ( Chuck laughed and said they are full of crap, no special card is required )

I question the need to disconnect the battery for this. I did not (and did the installation process 3 times due to the port flash/****** size issue). No problems and the skip shift works. Fortunately the conditions for a skip shift are such that it is not activated unless granny shifting.

Actually, Ron, I'm with you on this...still, it may be interesting to hear an explanation for the observed phenomenon.

I believe one reason to disconnect the battery, is that it cleares the "memory" form the computer, and the car will now relearn fuel mixtures the the new filters.
