Hello Mr. ***, meet Mr. Kettle....
I'm sure by the time an event gets organized there will be more than enough.
:)
I know of a certian Pewter Z28 that is on the streets now that should be running low 11's on the motor. Oh, and its built for a 300 shot, BTW.

Guys, I am opening this thread back up because I was talking to Dr. Roof on the phone yesterday about the V10 Nationals new season next year.

We both think that Las Vegas would make a great place to run the very 1st event of the new racing season. A January or February date would be ideal. We'd need about 60 cars to show, so bringing in a dual group (Vipers/Supras or Viper/Vettes) would be OK to get the car count up and allow us plenty of runs to do the competition.

However, if that doesn't work, we can do it here in Southern California at the Fontana California Speedway, and I am confident we could get a lot of cars there since there are so many exotic cars here in southern Cali. I am up for either. For me, I would prefer Fontana since it is closer to more people that would show (I think) and the track rental should be less, and the weather should be better (not as freezing cold as Vegas in January) plus the elevation would be better. I would hope we could get some of the West Coast Tuners to sponsor the event as well and would do my part in organizing that.

This will only happen if I can get some feedback from people that are really interested and think they can get some people they know to the track, 1st timers and veterans.

Lot's of fun stuff to do here in Southern Cali, and even more fun in Vegas -- both would be good, and I would love to make the 1st event here on the West Coast (finally) but we can't do it unless people show up.

The entree fee would be about $150 per car running.

I think VEGAS it will be then. There's a few guys working on getting all the information together. Hopefully there will be a more difinitive date in the coming weeks. Need to run everything by Dr. Roof before anything is set in concrete. If the various VCA's (Southern Cali, Nevada, etc.) can make announcements and those of us going can each get one or two other Viper guys who have never done it to go, we would have a grand turn out. Besides, it's VEGAS! Can't get much more fun than spending a Friday and Saturday in Sin City.

Throwing this out to you all: Las Vegas has a road course there that is available for rental -- would making that available to the group on one of the days be enticing enough to attract a much larger number of cars? Would need an extra 30 cars or so (on top of the normal drag strip number) to make that event worthwhile.

OK now you're starting to get my attention.

Its sounding more like an event I'd go to.

I would suggest coordinating this so it does not interfer with the Willow Spring Viper days event.

is there a drag strip at willow springs? if so maybe we can piggy back with them.

Vegas would be my vote! but the car count is most important!!

Willow Springs is a great road course event, but there is no drag strip out there. The closest I believe is in Palmdale, and to be honest, the Antelope Valley (Palmdale/Lancaster) is dumpy (not fun.)

Let's stick with Vegas and use the road course there if needed. We might be able to coordinate with a few of the race groups that many of us attend to see if they will send out an announcement. I also know that there are quite a few Viper guys going to Willow Springs for the first time next month through a local Viper club, so perhaps the bug will bite them all and they'll come to this event.

Roof, I think we'll have plenty of cars based on the feedback I have been getting. And like we discussed, if we feel we'll be short, we can invite other clubs to get to the car count we need.

The preliminary rates for Vegas so far have been $6,000 per day for the drag strip + $140 per hour for ambulance service. The 1.8 mile road course would be an additional $4,500.00. The much higher speed road course at 2.4 miles is $7,000 per day. More info hopefully in the next few days, along with some available dates.

Track says $5MM in insurance is needed -- how have you been doing this David?

Also, how do you take care of charging pre-registrations at the moment on credit card?

Any interest in a big get together dinner on the evening of the 1st track day (test and tune) ? Tons of places to eat in Vegas. This could be coordinated and built into the price of admission. Just throwing ideas around.

So, $150 to $195 for two days of drag events and road coursing your car seems like a stellar deal, since most events charge more than that just for a single day of road coursing alone.

BTW, if there is a road course event, I'll end up bringing two of my cars -- one for each.

David, in January, we'll probably be looking at temps in the day that are in the high 50's or low 60's in Las Vegas. Humidity will be nice and low. In February, the temps seem to increase a few degrees, but not much.

Will get you the track info as soon as I have confirmation on everything.

The Vegas Supra meet is in early october, we have usually either run on Friday night with the "Friday night drags/run what you brung" crowd. Last year we had the track with some other fast cars on Saturday I believe.

Having an event in January with the Supra guys probably wouldn't be too hard. Probably be able to get at least 15 or so Supras to race. I also know a few Viper guys from AZ that would probably attend (~4 or 5).

Manny if you get something together and would like some Supra participation let me know, my email address is [email protected]. January would be better than February as the TX Supra meet is in March......

manny, i hope all your effort will pay off and we get a good showing of vipers. it would be cheaper to rent the track in pahrump for the road coarse event. the email address for the nevada vca president is [email protected], i am sure he can help. if you get some info together i will talk to marko. he is always asking for my help to put some racing events together for the nv vca since he is usually busy.
oh ya put me down for vegas. i know a few 8-9 second supras that would show also.
