Well I tried yesterday to modify the clip on Gen 3 license plate holder from PartsRack and it doesnt work.:( Talked to John and he stated that he has never had a problem with it before. Just my luck. He is a great guy and he would have taken it back but I decided to see if I could modify it somehow to make it work and it didnt. The hood latch release on my 06' VOI9 is almost right up against the middle bumper fascia and it couldnt be moved because it is molded in place. I tried to snap the bottom holder over the hood latch bracket but it just kept popping off. I decided to cut the bottom piece and tried double stick velcro, but the rubber/neoprene material did not allow the velcro to stick to it. What I ended up doing was taking the factory license plate holder and just drilled holes for the top two brackets inside the bumper to hold it up. There was no way I was drilling into the bumper on the front of the car. I bought some black velcro and used the soft side to cover the back of the license plate bracket where it touches the front of the bumper. It looks like it will work fine and I didnt mind drilling holes for the top 2 brackets because it is in the black plastic on the inside of the bumper and you cant see it at all.:2tu:
I really wish some Co. would design afew different brackets for the States that require a front plate so we don't have to use the factory plate.. Anyway, I'll probably leave it in the trunk and if I happened to get pulled over, I'll use the excuse that I just washed the car and forgot to put the plate back on.:)

How happy I am to live in a state that does not require front plates

Yes, we are required also to have the front plate ON the car (NY as well as you, voi9)...but we refuse to 'deface' the front of the car, so keep the plate under the passenger side floor mat to produce if requested...and yes, it's a risk, :nono: but we're willing to take it....as YOU found, too much of a hassle to put that front plate on, and looks horrible! :naughty:

As I've posted before, get your dealer to generate a dummy order for the front plate bracket and it state that the item is on backorder. If you get stopped show it to the cop and you should be all right.

It sounds like you were trying to put the plate dead center.

What I did, and worked perfectly and has been proven to 140+ mph is to pick the passenger side and mount it there:

Matter of fact, when i wash the car, and try to pull the plate off, its kinda a pain in the ***, when you get 2 off, the other two grab, and then you get those two, and the original two grab. lol.. no it works, it DEFINITELY works.

Wish you had tried it like i did, I think you would have seen it works perfectly.

Thanks....... We have dozens and dozens and dozens of happy owners just in NY alone with this bracket.

I probably INVENTED that "backordered bracket" invoice and have provided it to many customers....probelm is, they go out of date, and usually work ONCE if you get a warning ticket. With the "rubber clothespin" bracket we sell, you HAVE it, and can snap it on (cooperating with the cop) immediately, and DONT get a ticket.

"I took it off for the carwash and forgot to put it back on" make sure to use it a while and get a DEAD BUG or 2 on it!

I did try it there but it doesn't fit snug on that area of my bumper. There was enough play between the bumper and the bracket that I was concerned of the paint wearing off due to any vibration caused when driving. I'm glad that it worked for you.:2tu: I do not mean any disrespect to John at PartsRack.:) I have spoke to him on many occassions and have ordered other items from his company. His input and his opinions are valuable to me and he is pleasant to do business with. :D

I put mine on the passenger side just left of (from the front) the center. As stated above, it works very well there.

I use the "my detailer must have left it off" line. So far, so good. Most CA cops don't expect a front plate on a Viper, but sometimes you can get a ****.

They're never going to see the front plate anyway, unless we let them.

I also have the rubber clothespin front plate holder that Jon sells and have used many times. Works great and I haven't seen a better design yet.

I just wish Jon B would sell something to fix speeding tickets as well as he has fixed the front license plate issue, because in reality I don't think I'm getting pulled over just for not haveing a front plate on my car.:drive: :omg:
