I'm still baffled in that the Viper is so rare in some parts of the country. I see at least 4 Vipers per weekend when the weather's nice and a handful of Ferraris. The Viper is still rare compared to a Ford Taurus, but its not as exotic as some owners elude.

South Carolina sounds pretty good to me. I think the yuppies in California are generally too busy sipping lattes and driving their Bimmers to even care about a Viper.

An exotic is a rare occurance around here.. even w/ kevin garnettes' Ferarri running around. We have an over abundance of mustangs and now rice.. I mean NASTY rice too... pepto-pink civics and crap. Ewwww..

Scott J,

You are the rarity, not the norm. I have only seen 4 Vipers on the roads in PA since 1992. Must be A LOT of money where you live if Ferrari's and Vipers are seen all the time.

P.S. - I just did some very rough calculations. Figure about 12,000 Vipers sold in the US since '92. Figure 1,000 of those are no longer with us
frown.gif
. Now we have 11,000. Now figure at least 2,000 more that are collectables or rarely driven. So about 9,000 Vipers in the US that are driven. Now divide that by 50 states = 180 Vipers per state. Now figure the small area of your state, percentage wise, that you actually spend 99% of your time driving. We will say 1/50'th of the state area wise. 180/50=3.6. We will say 4 Vipers. Now you have to be out driving the same time as these Vipers on the same road to acutally see the car. When you break it down, you can see why I've only seen 4 Vipers on the road since 1992. Although, now I get to see mine everyday!!!
bounce.gif
I would consider the Viper VERY exotic, unless you live in Hollywood, Miami, etc...

Had my first Viper $10 dance the other night:

Cruising Ouelette Avenue with a buddy, our large north south strip that runs right into the Detroit River at the base, some 15 mintues from the Viper plant. You would think that a Viper would be more common with the Motor City connection, etc, which may be true for the older folk, but cruising with the GTS at 3 in the morning when all the bars let out has its moments.

This 20 year old Blondie struts out of the club and is crossing the road 2 feet off the front of the road, and stops dead center off my hood and does the finger in the mouth hike up the skirt show some G string underwear routine which I am sure all the Supras had already seen already. This was followed by a gesture to follow her over her way, with some front breastasis display as well......

Actually took the attention off the car for a change, she had the limelight for a mintue, you go girl!!

Yes, the Viper is a rare car by comparative measure. I completely agree, but I'm not exaggerating nor fabricating when I note the following spotted cars last weekend:

(1) Black w/ Silver Stripe GTS - Pleasanton, Highway 680
(2) Blue w/ White Stripe GTS - Alamo (parked in front of small car dealership)
(3) Silver ACR - Heading out of Crow Canyon in San Ramon
(4) Red RT/10 - Danville, Sycamore Road
(5) Maroon Lambo [model?] - Shell gas station in Alamo
(6) Silver Ferrari 360 Modena - driving out of Mt. Diablo State Park
(7) Red Ferrari 328 - Walnut Creek, Highway 24

San Jose might have the highest Viper-per-capita count? You have a good point [i.e. Exception rather than the Rule!]

There is another Viper up the street from me and a Ferrari TR a few houses down, so I'm not even the big dog on the block, let alone in the surrounding area!!! Oh well, still love the car.

I've only seen a few Vipers in the Detroit area (about 10 since I moved here a year ago), but $80K Jags, Benzs, and BMWs are flooding the roadways.

So, not common at all, but not as expensive/exotic (and thus the more lukewarm reception) as they are in say, Kalamazoo.

Speaking of expensive, do you know that almost everyone who has guessed at the cost thinks they still run $50K?

Let's see, it's evolved, gotten a hard top, roll up windows, A/C, etc.. and they still think it's the same price it was 10 years ago.

Why doesn't anyone stop to think: "If they only cost what a vette costs, why are there so few around?"

Some people...

Ryan, I guess I am going to have to take my Viper over to Windsor now and cruise the streets.
biggrin.gif
Did she walk out of one of those *******, bottomless bars you are so famous for over there? Is there any establishment of any kind over there where I can valet park my Viper?

I see plenty of Vipers over on this side of the river. Was out cruising a little last weekend and saw 2 others on Saturday. I guess they are more up here in the Northern suburbs though than near Detroit. Oh, and the new Lamborghini Murcielago I saw on I-94 Monday, now that was sweet.

Scott--I'm the Silver ACR on Crow Canyon Road. LOL!

I was "spotted"...that's too funny.
Look for my 360 Modena in November. ;^)

I totally agree--the gent above detailing the estimates of vipers should have added the following: Let's say California has 20% of all the vipers....etc.

I'll be looking for your ride as I drive around now.

There is a fantastic royal blue (uh, that's probably not what Ferrari calls the color--hmm) 360 modena that drives down hopyard in pleasanton. I stare at him out of my window at work as he goes by. I try to comfort myself by telling myself that my car is faster and doesn't break.
laugh.gif

However, NO one has EVER shown their boobs to me, nor come close. I must have "keep your clothes on" written on my forehead.

p.s. the red R/T 10 in danville is owned by a guy who goes to my Church--Steve Staats--I think his name is Steve...They own the masonary supply place on San Ramon Valley Blvd..

After seeing the ACR up close he's asked his wife for a GTS. Some people just have too much money....

I saw the Blue/white GTS in Alamo, and the Silver ACR this weekend. Also saw a paper plate equipped Blk/silver stripe ACR, up by Pete's in Danville...

Of course I was SLITHER'IN around too...

I have never been boobed, but I still get all kinds of people yelling out their windows, yelling from sidewalks, thumbs up, horn honks, etc...The worst is when the driver next to you nearly drives INTO you as he gawks at the snake.

I hate to say it, but I think its the stripes!

I give lots of rides to strangers, but I was washing my car yesterday at the diy-wash in san ramon, and some guy actually pulled off from the street and parked next to me.

Before I could even say hi, he had asked for a ride. That's a first. No one has ever actually ASKED me for a ride before. I've just offered. Anyhow, he said he had a highly modified mustang and wanted to find out what a viper felt like, blah blah.

He's probably over on the mustang boards right now telling them all how slow vipers are. hee hee. Josh was his name...seemed like a nice guy.

He described his friends Camaro running 136mph at sears. Whatever. Not interested. My car passes smog. I'm happy.

"San Jose might have the highest Viper-per-capita count?"

I don't know about that Scott, other than my neighbor a block over who has a red '95, I have generally seen only 1-2 Vipers a year here. But I have a short commute.

I've seen more Ferrari 355s and 360s (I saw a black 355 Spyder last week), and more BMW Z8s than I do Vipers.

I did see a red R/T 10 following a GTS/R a few weeks ago coming back from a car show in Oakland.

Of course 911s, Z06s, and M3 are all over the roads here.

Maybe all of the street driven Vipers are cruising around Blackhawk and down L.A. way.

James, Ryan,

You guys really need to carry digital cameras along with you!

Rare? I'll tell you rare. I live in southern Maryland and the first Viper I ever saw was the one I bought in February. The second Viper I ever saw was at MIR last weekend when I saw lots of them.
I found out that there are at least a couple of Vipers living within ten miles or so. I've never seen them on the road. Vipers are rare here.

So Cal is one of the only places I've been where I see Vipers regularly (when I visit).... when you look at the last VIPER Mag and see that nearly 2000 Vipers have been sold in CA and it makes sense
smile.gif
That is nearly double of the other "high sales" states of MI and IL Where are the fewest? Well.... all the rest of the states! Most have fewer than 100 Vipers.

I am surrounded by Vipers. I see them quite often on the road. However, I still get the oohs and ahhs and the occasional proposition. A couple of days ago, two car loads of teenagers actually followed me off the freeway all the way to my house. This really bothered me, even though they were only hooting and hollering praises of the car (I didn't act like a **** though, but I did pretend my neighbors house down the street was mine).

Wow. Fewer than 100.

We are really spoiled here in cal, I must say.
I see vipers all the time, and Ferrari's shockingly often. I even se a Z8 around pleasanton now and then.

There are three (3!) vipers at my church in danville (about 500 people). AND a Z06 (although that guy really drives me nuts telling me how he'd kill me in a race, etc. etc. vipers can't do 12.5s at sacto blah blah blah--the viper guys are so much nicer--oh, and his dad, new Z28 telling my how his car will keep up with me 0-60 cause he has an exhaust/intake...sigh)

Is your ACR silver with stripes? I don't know the colours well, but this past Sat am I saw a silver or maybe grey (?) ACR with stripes going north on SRVBlvd, right at the intersection by Morgans Masonary supply (across from the boat store)...

My wife and I were in our WHite Durango, and we waived your way, hope that was you and you saw us...

There was some poser in a shiny TA maybe beside you at the light, I hope he did not think our waves were for him!

Tomer--no, that wasn't me...mine is pure silver. Maybe my friend Steve broke down and got one....

The closest I came to a woman in my viper was a 20 year-old in front of On The Border one night...

She runs up to the car..."is this your car" (very beautiful girl, I suppose, but being married I do NOT notice these things)

"uh huh."

"you must have a really good job".

"yeah I guess".

"okay then, bye".

"bye. Um, did you want to lift your shirt or anything?"

<smack>

"okay, then, bye."

I think I have "show me your boobs" written on my forehead or something... because today was the second time (yes SECOND time) within a month span of seein' the old bongo's whipped out when driving the viper!

Basicly same scenario as last time, stoplight. This time, it was an explorer and a redhead. Just waving and hollering (had no idea what she said.. windows and hardtop on) and out they came...

I don't know if i'm lucky or cursed... all of them seem to be in the 16 year old range :/

Okay that's it. Madmaxx you really need to carry a digital camera with you. In fact I think most here will chip .50 to buy you one if you are without.

But as a viper owner its your duty to share with the groups the obvious benefits to owning such a glorious car and you have been failing miserably at it on this point.

Sounds like a real good reason to buy a Viper to me. I rarely see Z06's in my area let alone a Viper (and never see *******

). I can count the number of vipers I have seen on the road in the past 5 years on one hand. Pa *****. It has been a life long dream for me to move south.

Silver ACR in Crow Canyon eh? That must've been you this past weekend, as I've now seen you driving on two occasions.

Do you have the stock exhaust? The reason I ask is that your car sounded truly MEAN as you opened the throttle going into the Canyon.

I have an all black GTS and moved from Alamo to San Ramon a few months ago, so we'll probably cross paths one of these days. Also, when the Modena arrives, I'll gladly plead for a photo of the Italian beauty. I'm trying to start a photo collection and a Modena would make a nice centerpiece.

tomer:

I saw you in your brilliant RT a couple weekends back - coming out of Crow Canyon Commons. I still think it's one hell of a clean looking ride!

I haven't had women show me their "wares" in any car I have owned. Is this something I can also expect in the future?

Speaking of rarity, I have only seen (1) viper on the road here where I live in ten years. Now that I have just purchased one, that makes two.

The stock exhaust turns heads when it gets above 3500 rpm, but it's pretty stealth down low. I just like going fast, like all of us, and I'm afraid I tend to keep the car in the power band, even getting groceries.

You can certainly DRIVE the Modena, let alone take a picture of it, when and if I get it. It will be the F1 only. I'm not interested in the manual.
