Does anyone have a 3.07 rear gear that they would be willing to part with? I have a 3.55 and wish to go back to stock. I would trade this or I will buy. Thanks!

Cost more to ship than they are worth. Maybe someone near you.

Need to know what year Viper you have and where you are located.

If near San Diego, I've got one for you.

Big Dog- I am sending my car to Dan Lesser to do a a Gen 4 upper swap and with 3.55 (and basically just full exhaust) right now 1st and 2nd are pretty wild. I cant imagine how it would be with 150 more HP, give or take. I figured if I go back to stock I will be able to use 1st better with the increased power and it will require less shifting.

Keep the 3:55s until after you do the mods. The 3:55 will work great up to 500-550 hp. I have had several gear sets in my cars, from 3.07, 3:45. 3.55 and 3.73. How much HP do you expect to have after the mods? The Hp will determine what rear gears are best for the car and your feel/driving style.

I had 3.45 with 640 rwhp and loved them. Do the engine mods first. Then do the rear gears after you see what power your making. you may want 3.31.

take into account rear wheel diameter also....are you on the stock 17's? 18's? after market 19's? Im at 620rwhp with stock 3.07's 19" wheel, its pretty good but Id like to go 3.31 or 3.45 to get a better pull

What HE Said. Trans gears aside, the 2013-14 Vipers have 645 HP and an OE 3:55. If you have newer tires with traction, Id hate to lose 16% of your acceleration! WAIT! LOtsof owners with 650HP run 3:55s if you have good rubber.

The Year Matters too...later in you mentioned 1997. Those earlier diff carrier bolts are NOT the same size as ALL ABS and later cars. Must tap/drill for earlier cars.

I just think that it would be too hard to control in lower gears when I really get on it with this added hp. 3.33 may be what I really want.

Jon-

I dont want to argue... but there is a big difference between a 640 HP Gen-5 with lower bottom end torque and a final drive in the lower gears very similar to earlier cars with 3.07, and a cammed Gen-4 converted Gen-2 with huge bottom torque, 50+ HP more, and an earlier transmission with a 3.55 after it.

The Gen-5 may have 3.55's, but the only thing that matters is the final drive in each gear after the trans. The Gen-5 is much closer in the lower gears to a earlier 3.07 car than it is to a 3.55 car. I realize you said "trans gears aside", but you absolutely cannot ignore that little detail when talking about torque multiplication through the driveline.

All that said, yes, Heath is on the cusp. He can absolutely go either way, and will ultimately be OK. Personally I lean towards less shifting and a more controllable 1/2 being less limited by tire type. At the end of the day, Gears only make your car faster between particular set points, outside of which the car gets slower. Its a trade off of feel and fun vs. shifting and control. To each their own. IMHO, the best combination going for the higher power cars is the 3.07 rear coupled with a 5/6 gear swap on a TR6060. It is a better overall spread than even the Gen-5 transmission, with lower gear loss overall.

Heath-

Realistically, any of the options can be done- your call at the end of the day.

However, everyone should note that Heath is looking for a WHOLE CARRIER with 3.07 in it, not just the gears. The gears themselves are no big deal- it costs more to install them than the gears cost. This post was mainly about an easy "pull and swap" with someone rather than actually removing the gear set. I have multiple sets of pull-out 3.55's on the shelf if anyone needs a set, we generally remove them with our packages, not install them.
