Looking to Own Gen II GTS

Hi all,

I just thought I would say hi.

I have decided I am going to be getting myself into a Gen II GTS. I currently have an 03 SVT Cobra at around 500rwhp that I will probably sell. Initially I planned to modify the Cobra to around 800rwhp but I decided I didn't want to dump that kind of money into a 70k miles car. So I started looking at built Cobras, eventually Shelby replicas and Vipers... and I set my mind on the best. I want a Gen 2 GTS... I really love the look and it has some really respectable performance to this day! I'm pretty excited to leave the Mustang camp and try something new.

I'm looking for something with low miles, preferably below 25K miles. Some modification would be okay if it is clean. I wouldn't mind an ACR.

My wife loves the blue and white cars, I don't have a bias really, but I am not a fan owning black as I have owned black cars before...too much fuss.

It will be a fairweather car, probably 500 miles per year.

I have been doing a ton of reading lately, but if anyone has advice or feedback, please feel free. Also, if you have any leads, my ears are open, would prefer to stay under 40k. I have been browsing the classifieds and haven't started hunting yet because the weather up here is still bad... I don't want to ask a seller to pull the car out in this weather... and I have time on my side.

Welcome to the group!
I would suggest that you contact local Viper owners for guidance. Often a local, known car may be available...and may be a much safer purchase.

The gen 2s are just Awesome. Best looking car ever made.

Welcome to the group!
I would suggest that you contact local Viper owners for guidance. Often a local, known car may be available...and may be a much safer purchase.

Solid advice. If any north east Viper owners know someone, or know of groups I could join, please let me know.

Just an update, still looking.

Blue/White is preferred, under 25,000 miles would be preferred.

Tasteful mods would be great, full exhaust/heads/cams would be amazing.

Car should be in great shape.

My budget is 30-50k, it all depends on the car.

since your into modifying cars, i would highly recommend a 96-99 gts as they came with forged internals and can handle much more power. the acr is nice but wont have forged internals and only comes with lighter wheels, a badge and slightly stiffer shocks. not to mention the acr shocks are known for leaking over time so you might as well get a gts and put some nice aftermarket shocks on if you want to hande better

Thanks for the suggestion, I have been looking for 96-99.

Ok lets clear up some bad info here.........
ACR's were available from '99-'02, so the first year cars do in fact have forged internals
Non forged cars have an advantage over forged cars in N/A builds (lighter pistons and longer rods vs earlier cars
Those lighter wheels you speak of are Viper specific wheels that are highly sought after and carry a hefty price tag (4K/set in the used market and 10K new)
The slightly stiffer shocks on 99-00 cars are the Koni 2812 race dampner specifically valved for the Viper and priced at 3K per shock and yes like any real race product they will need service (I'm currently sending mine in at the 20K mileage mark. cost is $200/shock from the Koni service center)
ACR's also come with smooth tubes and K&N filters as well as Five pt harness's
They come at a premium over a regular GTS, but your getting a car with factory race parts at pennies on the dollar.
