Hi Everyone,
My e-mail started acting up and totally crashed.
I no longer have anyone's e-mail address or any of the received / sent mails.
In addition, I was out late last week after a trip to the hospital for Kidney stones.
There were a lot of e-mails I had not replied to.
If anyone needed assistance or programming information, please send the e-mail again.
I'm off the drugs now and should be able to respond in a more coherent manner.
Regards,
Sean

Sean,

If you were using outlook, maybe upgrade to the latest version and you will be able to recover all if this is an email too large database problem

Sean, dump that crappy Outlook(and probably Internet Explorer) they **** and are outdated. Plus 90% of all viruses and spyware are coded specifically for Outlook and Internet Explorer. With (your business records you ought to do a backup anyways)
Do yourself a favor and download Firefox and Thunderbird, both are built better, 3x faster websurfing, they're both free.
Over 28% (and climbing) of all Microsoft IE and Outlook users have switched. Check out F-secure too, they got the Norton beat on antivirus/spyware, it's free too, just FYI..

Just an observation, but from my experience, the vast majority of people who recommend Linux usually have a Windows machine too (or dual-boot).

The only Windows machine i have is at work. I run Virtual PC on one of my Mac's if I have to run a Win App. Microsoft Office has been rewritten to run on Mac's now so I can work at home when necessary. The Mac version of MS Office runs better on a Mac than the Win version on a PC.

Once you spend some time on a Mac you never want to go back to a Windows machine. Hopefully that won't change too much with Intel building all Mac chips starting 2008.

While I prefer Linux, a Mac might be better simply because more software is coded for Windows/Mac than Windows/Linux. The trend is changing though.

I used a Mac for several years, when I was into graphic design. Macs are absolutely great for that. But if you are into gaming, Macs are an awful choice. The selection of titles ****. Not to mention that Macs cost more. I use Windows XP Pro now, and have no problems. It's taken me well over a decade, but I finally have no complaints about Windows. I have a 2.1 Ghz machine with a gig of Ram, dual 128 MB video cards, etc. This computer does everything I need and then some. And my laptop is basically the same too, and it's just fine for my use.

I have yet to hear one logical explanation for the average user to switch to Linux. I have used Redhat on both KDE and Gnome. And seriously, what is so great about it? The average person has absolutely no need for Linux. Now, yeah, if you are talking server level stuff, I am a diehard Unix/Linux fan, but not for what I do.

I'll give you 3 reasons for starters:-
1. Better memory management. Windows performs much slower than it's Linux counterpart in equivalent machines. Therefore Linux translates to lower cost of ownership. Free OS, open software, blah.
2. Better security. There are lesser viruses, hacks, etc with Linux than with Windows. It makes for a much safer internet browsing, email, blah.
3. Office compatibility. Open Office for Linux addresses most of the needs of the average person: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, blah.

I'll also give you some cons too:-
1. Third-parties don't port all software to Linux and it's variants. As a result , one might be limited in their choices.
2. Big vendors are not on the bandwagon to the same extent as with Windows making support a bit dicier.
3. Three are too many Linux variants around making shopping a PITA for the average consumer.

Linux on the desktop is a joke for 95% of business's. Go up to Gartner.com and search on linux windows and there have been hundreds of company's that have tried to switch but the ROI wasn't there (up cost might seem cheaper but it actually isn't).

Server is a similiar story unless you have a IT department with experience.

To pull this back into Sean thread, stick with Windows unless you have someone at the shop who is going to try and manage a Linux environment...
