Hey everyone,

I was driving my car under moderate load (3k rpm accelerating) and heard a loud acute clunk / **** noise. I drove for another ~ 1 mile and could shift in and out of gear fine, but would hear a loud intermittent clunking / banging noise. It did it in multiple gears and it didn’t seem to be connected with shifting. Any ideas would be super welcomed. Live in the Nashville area if anyone knows a good technician. Thanks in advance.

Possibility. If you take your foot of the gas then accelerate and it clunks tighten the bolts that hold the differential and transmission to the frame.

Thanks, Greg. I’ll get them checked out as well. I would’ve guessed something went bad like the transmission/clutch or the rear end given it happened while accelerating and not something slow over time

I have the same problem. As it turned out in my case, the half drive shafts at the rear end, left and right of the differential tend to shift a little in turns or when you accelerate or decelerate (take the foot of the gas pedal). Take the car on a lift and try to shift the half shafts by hand, and you might hear the clunk. I got used to it and there is no harm done to the rear end. Remember the Viper is no German built sports car or a Ferrari. The tolerances are greater.
On the other hand, there is no car built or was ever built that is more fun to drive than a Viper.
