Just happened to be on Ebay, so thought I'd take a look at RT's. Unfortunately, what I found were lots of them in the $20k range with bids and those with starting bids in the $30's had no bidders. Sad, but I guess it will be awhile before prices go back up (if ever). While I am concerned only in terms of general value of the car, I don't plan on selling mine so it doesn't realistically hurt me.

It will be interesting to see where values go, assuming economy rebounds, when the Gen V is released.

I check EBay daily as I am in the market for one. There ate a lot of people with higher prices, but those very seldom sell. The prices of RTs is quite a bit less than the GTSs, but they only seem to bring the big money if they are exceptionally clean and have low miles. I myself hope the prices stay low until riff raff like me can get in one. That's the only way somebody like me can afford one. It's opening the market to more buyers, but it's still a shame to see the prices are so depreciated.

I don't think it's going to change much any time soon, regardless of the economy. The fact is, people buying sports cars or exotics nowadays want all the technology and luxury they can get. How many times do you hear people say or write "the Viper is a badass car, but the ride is rough and the interior feels cheap, I'd never buy one." You hear or read those kinds comments all the time. Those same people go out and buy a Vette or a Porsche. I like Vettes and Porsches, I am a car fan. But the Viper has a niche market. I, and I'd be willing to guess everyone else on here, love the Viper for it's brutality and rawness. So what if the ride isn't as smooth as other sports cars? I could care less about the interior, although I for one think the Viper is plenty comfortable. If I buy a Bentley or Benz, then yeah, it better have some damn nice interior made of the highest quality.

It's probably going to take another 10-15 years before the Gen 1 and 2 Vipers start realizing true collector value.

The prices are up since 2 years ago... That is certain. 2 years ago there were very nice Gen1's at or below $20k and GTS's in the mid to high $20s and Gen3 Verts under$35k. I'm sure that people saw Rif Raf:brainless: like me driving one and decided to check prices and then demand started to build again.

Agree, that's a beautiful Gen 2 and $33k is too low in my opinion...but then, I have a 98 RT with 7900 miles and I would hope my car would bring more than $33.

I actually was looking at a gray in Florida before I bought my red one. Called and left messages, never called me back...then I found mine and that was it!

I think that's right on. Think 396 Chevelle prices in the late 70's.....nobody wanted them so price was low. Now that they're classics/nostalgic people aren't comparing them to modern cars, folks who buy them WANT the feel of the car (no brakes, bad panel gaps, stinky old carb etc). When folks who have a modern sports car have the jack to buy a raw car from yesteryear, Gen 1/2 cars will be in vogue. Then we'll all be talking about how we coulda bought a warehouse full of 'em in 2011 for $20K each......

Agree Drum! Back in the day, I could have picked up a two year old factory Hemi AFX Dodge with under 100 miles for $3700 (not cheap back then). Now, that car in the auctions would bring well over $100k. Same deal with cars like original Cobras and the like. The issue is, when is "some day" and will many of us still have our Vipers, or worse yet, will we still be around? (speaking for myself of course!) :D

Unfortunately for me, I had friends with (relatively new) '66 and '67 Chevelle SS's. Great cars and fun to have now, but not my style anymore. The Viper is a combination of a high-end sports car, with the raw power of the old time muscle cars...like the Chevelles, Hemi's and 429 CobraJet Mustangs.

I think everyone needs to keep something in mind here. The Viper IS American muscle. There will always be a market for that. Given the limited number of them world wide and their rarity on the road (I still have only seen 2 Vipers in 8+ years living in CO on the road), fluctuations in price will be small (never wild swings up or down).

Car fans in Russia, Asia and the Middle East love American muscle too, it's a big market out there it just depends on how you market your car. I don't know how many high end cars are actually transacted on Ebay, I look at it as more of a showcase for the cars, actual deals probably get in done in person and after a lengthy inspection. Thus, I don't neccessarily think Ebay reflects the market value of niche cars like the Viper. That being said, the true value could be higher or lower than those shown on Ebay.

There is a guy here in the Classifieds with a 08' Coupe with 800+ miles on it selling it for $60,000. I my mind that is a great price, perhaps others think it is too high. I think if gas goes through the roof in the summer prices wil lgo down some and then there will be GREAT deals in the Fall for Vipers.

IF you plan on keeping the car then it really doesn't matter what happens to prices in the end.
