Matte finishes

Pros and cons? ( besides looking awesome). Specifically matte white with matte black stripes. Just wash and dry or is there more to it? Is there a protective coat over it? Wax it?

I know there was a document that came out for the matte finish, don't have a copy. From what I remember, never wax and there's no i.e. Clear coat like coating in matte. Wish I could remember where I saw it. You know outnumbered from the VTCoA, he has one of those Vipers

With the increasing numbers of matte finished available from other manufacturers there are numerous matte care products out there, most will wash and dry, less rubbing the better. I have been told that a good glass cleaner can be used for touch up and bug removal, just get one that does not contain any ammonia.

I painted the hood on my old Dart with satin black and can attest that it cleans up fairly well with just soap and water. You can actually see where the car cover rubs on the hood scoop when the wind blows is getting shiny from the polishing effect. Granted it was a cheapo rattle can paint job, but I needed some kind of color on it.

This is the go to way on most exotic cars. It takes a wash much better, if you get wax on i you can strip it off real quick and it will not rub shiny or take hand oils. Not cheap but still cheaper then the matte paint job from the factory as a option.

Matte finish can present a real challenge. As mentioned a good glass cleaner can work just fine. Challenge is any real rubbing of the matte finish can start to turn matte finish to a sheen finish.

I was at the NY car show, they had a matte white ACR there, from what I saw the younger crowd liked it and the older crowd not so much. I like shinny, and yes I am old. but the ACR is so cool it looks great in anything, it was Awesome.

I personally love the matte finish. I'm not old, well I don't consider myself old. Anyway, it's the extra maintenance of that finish that I don't want. They do look really awesome though.

Just was discussing this elsewhere, but a matte finish that gets even the slightest scratch can NOT be polished out. It is there forever unless you repaint.
Matte finishes are cool and trendy, but you're nuts to get a factory one when you can just matte wrap the car for a few K.
My buddy scratched his door on a matte finish Lambo just by hitting it with a garden hose. Entire door repaint.

I think the matte finish is much easier to maintain, no more waxing and polishing, just wash and go.
