For those that bought their cars out of state (used) and live in Maryland:

(1) Where did you take your Viper for inspection?
(2) How long does it take?
(3) Cost?
(4) And is an appointment needed? I suspect that it is needed.

I've called a few places near my house and those places require that i leave the car there, which isn't something that i would like to do. I already did a search and there wasn't that many inquiry on this topic, so hopefully someone that lives in Maryland will chime in. Thank you.

I've bought two Vipers out of state (and two in state), and Keene Dodge in Jarrettsville, MD did the state inspections on all of them. I'd look for a Dodge dealer near you, as Keene is about an hour's drive from Rockville. If you take it to a reputable Dodge dealer with a Viper Tech, it should not be a problem to leave the car with them for a few hours, and most will need at least that to get it in and inspected. Less than that would mean they are not busy, and then I might wonder.

I did a search on the forum for Viper Tech near me (in Montgomery county) and the consensus seems to be that the only reputable Viper Tech is in Springfield, Va. So basically i'm not sure (based on all the accounts that i've read)if there's a reputable Dodge dealer with a Viper Tech near me. Taking the car to the local gas station isn't advised? Thank you.

NO it is not advised! And I would not leave the car either at a gas station type inspection station. Remember that there is a requirement the the car be DRIVEN by the inspector. You get my drift? I would not even leave it at a dealer unattended for that reason. You need to go with them on that drive to prevent the obvious foolishness from happening. I would think any Dodge dealer would be OK as long as you stay with the car, just try and make an appointment. If this gets unmanageable get back to me and we will try and line up a little more help. Ultimately if you want to make a 45 min trip to Severna Park I can walk you through with some guys I have known forever who will take care of you with no hassle on an appointment basis. PM me if you need any help. Another factor is how stock the car is, that can be an issue also.

SR, call Fitzgerald Dodge in Rockville. Their Service Director (Eddie Santos) is a Viper owner, and you can trust him 100% with your car....Thats IF they do inspections. Im pretty sure they do.

Talk to him personally.

I also took mine to Keene Dodge in Jarrettsville and they really didn't do a whole lot since my car had 6k miles on it when I bought it. As part of the inspection they take your car for a ride and I was able to ride in the car with them so there was no joy riding.

Well, i took the car, this morning, to have it inspected. Because they weren't able to put the car on the lift, they weren't able to issue a certificate of either pass or fail. However, from what they've seen with the car, they said that they probably wouldn't have passed it b/c the windows are tinted AND b/c they couldn't find a converter. I should've done my homework before purchasing an out of state car with mods. Now i'm going to have to try to find a place where they might let me "squeeze" by. Anyone happens to know of a place? Thank you again for everyone's input!

Your making this waaay to hard. What do the mods have to do with your inspection ? "If" the tinted windows are an issue everywhere, then remove the tint from the side windows (a rezor blade is your friend) The converters are there, same place as any Viper no matter where it came from.

Go to the Dodge dealer mentioned and leave the windows rolled down.....at least he will know the cats are in the side sill.
