Check out this car at Boston.com cars.com and see if you don't think that it's profile doesn't look like a combination of the SRT/10 and the Gen II GTS. This is actually the first Mercedes that caused me to have a wet dream! Not only is it an awesome looking car but it has the performance that even Viper drivers could love. With a 5.5 litre turbo charged V8 it is estimated to put out around 600 HP. At over $300,000 it will cost you a little more than a Viper but what a beast. Only about 500 will be produced each year starting in mid '04.
I want one!!

only problem is that performance wise it will out do the SRT (top speed) everthing else is not that much better if better at all. dont get me wrong it is one hell of a car. but even the new carrea GT, and other supercars have a lot of explaining why their performanc only marginally beats the SRT in some catagories. yeah i know these cars a more exclusive(ie: small produciton #'s, high $ prices) but dont you think for the price of 3-5 SRT's these cars should easily beat the pants off of the SRT.

Mercedes make a lot of cars at not too bad prices for their (rated) power:
E55AMG 469hp@6100 5.5L V8 Supercharged Intercooled $77k
S55AMG 493hp@6100 5.5L V8 Supercharged Intercooled $107k
S600 493hp@5000 5.5L V12 Twin Turbo $121k
SL55AMG 493@6100 5.5L V8 Supercharged Intercooled $114k

2004 will see the SL600 return, probably with the S600 (Maybach too?) V12TT...? The SLR is auto only isn't it? Pity...

I have a couple of those cars and they run pretty well. My CL55 ran a 12.9 stock on a 90 degree day and our S600 is faster (haven't had it to the track yet). They are by no means Viper beaters but they sure are great daily drivers. Ben Treynor's S600 has run an 11.6 though, with a Renntech ECU upgrade.

I'm not a fan of the SLR as it doesn't look that much different than the SL but is 3 times the cost. I'd rather have an SL600 with the ECU upgrade for the money.

And yes, all 600's have the V12TT.

There was a previous thread on this. They must have used the same Toyota Corolla designer as the SRT but told him to rice it up. The front is just plain ugly.

hey! great design (Gordon Murray) its just that for the price and hype does it deliver the goods(besides exclusivity) the McLaren F1 did and still does just look at the prices< even used! the performance it very good but is it a world stomping supercar, ok if its not its damn close. but for the cost it should be more of a performer.
