we have recently redesigned the gripper knob so that you can get it even lower on your shaft and also adjust it without the uuse of 2 wrenches. to get the factory one off you need 2 wrenches . one for the jam nut the other on the flats on the shift knob. break it loose and the knob screws off.

now here is the option you have in regards to our knob...

1. leave the nut on the car and just screw the mgw knob down to it and lock the screw in the front of the mgw knob in place.

2. remove the jam nut since you do not really need it and you can get the mgw knob even LOWER in the car.

either way is fine.

hope this helps

There's some confusion here with removing the original Viper shift knob because they changed the style of the knob at some point. Although the illustration is good, it is for a gen I Viper, but the Gen II cars or recent model year Vipers have a round shift knob with no wrench flats and no expose nuts.

Chad - would you please let me know how it goes with replacing the shift knob on your Viper as I was planning to do the same on my '01.

thanks.
