From the Michelin site: http://www.michelinman.com/catalog/tires/MichelinPilotSportPS2.html?source=mid
Drawing inspiration from Formula One tire design, the new Michelin® Pilot® Sport PS2™ tire represents a quantum leap in tire design and engineering. The Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 significantly outperforms not only its predecessor, but ALL other Michelin high-performance summer tires as well, both in wet and dry conditions

That is such great news with a claim that this new tire out performs even the MXX3 --- Until you check out this page: http://www.michelinman.com/assets/pdfs/doc_pilotsportps2.pdf

and see that it only goes up to a 245 on a 17" size. Way off of our needed 335! Even the 18" size doesn't go wide enough. How long before they completely replace the plain old Pilot Sport and 17"-18" Vipers have no Michelins to get?

Ok, so the Sport Cup didn't come in all Year Viper sizes, but these Sport PS2 should be our replacement street tires or it's off to another, less desirable brand.

Michelin has been THE oem tire all through Viper Sales. They even send support eng. to Viper races like VRL. Dodge made the committment to Michelin for a lot of years with the Viper program. Unless there is something lurking behind the scenes for the 17 & 18" Vipers, Michelin has really dropped the ball on us.

Michelin, you need to make your latest and greatest in all Viper sizes.

DC & VCA - The Viper owners need some help.

Absolutely! I'm buying Hoosiers because I can't get Cups in 17. Now it looks like I'll have to switch to Khumos for my street ride.

Re: Michelin Tire Issue & concern

Got the V700s and finally have traction!! Drove a friends SRT-10 this weekend, and it spun the stock Michelins like crazy too. With 3.55s and headers, exhaust mods, my 98 is already way too hot for the Mickeys. Wonder what the forced induction guys are doing for street traction!
Don't really like French companies anyway.

Re: Michelin Tire Issue & concern

We had a Michelin rep at our VCA brunch today. He had a sample of the new tire, showed us how it was built, and pointed out its advantages. Then he told us that unfortunately it might be up to two years before it was available in Viper sizes. They are making it for the cars where they can sell a greater volume first. *****!

Re: Michelin Tire Issue & concern

I asked Luke at TireRack a month ago that although the new PS2 is available in the front 18" size, would it be available for the rear and would it be the replacement for the current Pilot Sports? Here's what he quoted me:

The PS2 is not a replacement and it will, most likely, not come in the
335/30-18 size

Thank You,

I put a set of 19" PS2's on my CL 55 about 8 weeks ago. They ride much better than the stock Bridgestones and the handling is amazing. They are great tires so far.

Well, AW,-- that made my day. :(

It's just wrong for michelin to drop prior year Viper Sizes from new the product line. OEM tires get a premium price. The auto manufacturer commits to use a specific tire on an exclusive basis and should requiure the tire maker to make the same level committment. After all, Viper still uses Michelin as OEM.

I've seen an old viper in Scottsdale with some trial run Goodyears from the days that Goodyear was making a run at being the Viper oem tire. Maybe goodyear shouldn't have been bounced out.

When are you over here next?

Michelin has developed great tires for Dodge/Vipers. As they improve technology it is introduced when cost effective in markets with a reasonable ROI. If brand X starts to take a market owned by Michelin make a decision based on ROI or marketing. They may also respond to customer comments. Business 101

Sorry Marv....I might guess that the future market for tires is for Gen III and beyond. That means ZP tires unless owners convert and risk running without spares.
I won't be out your way until the temp stays below 100 for a week! You're welcome to come visit me at the beach!
