My Viper is presently having the engine pulled for an Arrow rebuild. While it was up on the rack, I noted that both rear tires (Michelin Pilot Sports) are worn almost down to the wear bars, not to mention that both had nails in them!

I went to Tire Rack to look into replacements and noted that comparable Dunlops are considerably less expensive. Two questions:

1. How do the two brands differ in terms of anticipated life, handling, and road noise?

2. Would it be deleterious to have Michelins on the front and Dunlops on the rear?

Thanks

Don

Don,

I think you want to stay with the same tread on your car. I heard the mich are better for holding the road and the dunlops are a bit slick. But the way you drive your car..I would say Dunlops would be fine.

If your looking for something inexpensive try the Kumhos $170 each. They have far more grip than the pilots and handle great. I have pilots on the front and Kumhos in the rear the car handles excellent and holds 600+ rwhp in 1st gear without spinning (with warm tires that is)

I would NEVER mix/match tires on a snake--it is enough of a thrill ride as it is. I have had Dunlops on other non-performance cars (as OE) and they were awful--maybe not fair comparison since I have not used them on a sports car.

After comparing prices and prior history I bought the Dunlops. (all 4- I don't recommend mixing) They stick much better than the Michelins (but those were orginal and probably very hard) I have run about 5K miles (hard burn out miles!!) with no problems and very little wear. I did not know about the Kumhos then, but many people have had good luck with them.
