It's easier to tell a GT500 from a V6, etc, than it is to tell one Vette from another, or a Gen3 from a Gen4 viper. Not sure of the point on that point, lol.

The Shelby's are hot, when there's a change there are dealers that gouge, just like on Vipers, Camaro's, everything with an enthusiast crowd. When the first 2011's with the aluminun block etc. were coming out there were gouging dealers marking up $20,000 over MSRP, that same year I got mine at just under "invoice" or about $48K. I swear some dealers use their profits to buy crack, and smoke that pipe before pricing their cars.

Not via my rear view mirror... :lol

The only way to tellthe difference is to study to badges stuck to the trunk. I ran into this yeaterday: is that a GT? as I close to about 3-4 car lengths, I find out it's a Shelby.....Ok, cool, now what kind of Shelby? Looks like a GT500 with crooked badges on the fenders. Wait, those aren't Brembo brakes..... Now I'm just confused..... I slow down, it does have dual exhaust...wait, they all have dual exhaust.....HELP!!!!!

Just ordered me one also.
2013 GT 500
Track Package and 821 Package,Recaro Seats ,Black on Black with stripe deleate.
61,485.00 MSRP. No Mark up.

It has all these track apps built in for drag and track racing, also launch control. It should be really nasty at the track.Do not think it will out run the Turbo S(10.80s Stock),but it will be close.

Will be Daily Driver with Raptor.

Can not beat a 650 Hp car for 60,000.00 ish.

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S

Enjoy the car. Remember....even if others "don't get it", who cares?

This board has changed so much in the last 5 years. I hope that you get the car that you want and expect.

LoL, it's real easy to tell, the GT500 is the one you can't catch, the rest ... Who cares.

IMO I still see clearer distinction in the pics you posted than I do in vette models. And don't get me started on the countless times my gen3 and gen4 have been referred to as vette's. I've had two vette owners in a gas station ask me how I liked my Z-oh-6. Doh, and that was with each viper. But not sure what the biggee is either way. Lotta car for the $. 650hp and 1.01g handling ain't bad considering. That being said, you do notice I'm on my 3rd viper and it holds the most Devine space in the garage. ;-)

D'Man - When I posted all the photos I had a friend come over (we are both huge Mustang fans) it sparked a 3-4 beer long conversation about *** happened to the exclusivity of the V8 in Mustangs. End result we were both bummed out that the brand has become so diluted with fancy look-alike V6's. When we had our Mustangs we wore it as a badge of honor that we had 2 tail pipes.... Dodge is really no different anymore with their SXT & SRT appearance packages. I like that you had to shell out cash if you wanted the bad boy. Not order the cheap-o with a $1500 appearance package. That's my only gripe. 650Hp (more so getting the FGT motor) for ~$60k new - that's one helluva a deal in my book for a DD. (so long as folks stop comparing pony cars to super cars....)

I for one always thought it was interesting how the car that sold extremely well back-in-the-day is now less desirable than the car that didn't sell well. Supply-and-demand I guess...One reason I was hoping the Viper was :rip:

Factual Statement Alert That Might Require Anger Management 101: Some other folks refer to the ACR as a pimped-up car that looks like a "normal" Viper, like some here refer to the Rustang renditions and how the Lambo/Vette/Ferrari/Hyundai, etc. forums compare/contrast models and years.

Just a statement but we can't make those here, right?

a 3-4 beer long conversation

Fast - I am noticing a trend here re: the above. :headbang:

Save a few  for me on Saturday night, ok?

For people that like to modify or add a lot of crap to their cars, the Mustang plateform can be beat.
True. While I never thought anybody would want to go to a Mustang after owning a Viper, that is the state the Viper is in now. Unsold 2010s in 2012! Pricing that *****. The Viper is no longer the price-performance vehicle it used to be.

I was at the track a few weeks back with my ACR and there was a guy there with a Boss 302. Nice looking car. Since I've always liked Mustangs I went over to say hello. Spoke to him a while about his car and it turned out that he had had many issues with overheating on the track. He could only get in a couple of laps before the puppy was running at 240 degrees or hotter. He ended up changing the grill, the hood, the radiator, and other stuff in attempts to reduce the underhood heat. He used parts from an FRS (spelling?) race prepped car. That apparently helped a lot. He said though that he had spoken to some Ford engineers at some event about the problem and they suggested he had to take the steps he took. Not sure if the GT500 will have similar issues on the track but it is a bit of a concern that the Boss 302 had these issues. It is, by the way, not just his problem, it is apparently a known issue and there is some noise about it in the Mustang community (or so he told me). One of things you have to love about SRT is that they beat the heck out of their cars on the track to identify these kinds of issues before any of their cars end up in the hands of customers.

Beers and car talk ... excuse me, but where was my invite??

I hear ya on all points, Fast, believe me, on my 8th mustang, I used to scuff at cobra's as a bastardization of the real name and nowhere worth the $ increase vs just modding my own. Interesting how things have progressed, or changes, or degressed, or something.

I've run at Summit Point in my '11 GT500 with a Boss 302 there, can't say I was impressed, not knocking it but for the hoopla, it seemed slow to me as I drove past it, over, and over. The GT500 track capability was well addressed in '11, with several tweaks, like larger intercooling, aluminum block, etc., I run my GT500 hard, and I mean hard at the road course, and I don't even see brake fade until about 15 mins with a little felt in one particular part of the track, and that's without cooling ducts. What I do like in '13 forward is even more tweaking & track options from the factory, right direction, for now. I foresee Ford having to thin the herd at some point on the model-soup in stangs, but I guess if they make $, they'll keep it up.

I just love the eclectic car enthusiasts in this community, best out there IMO. But then, we all have Vipers, so we have nothing to prove or compensate for. ;-)

Mustangs are a joke. The gt500s have been a huge let down so far. It will take more than added power to make that a good car.

I aplaud mustang on jumping up to 650 hp but they did this because they know that the real american supercars are 400-500 pounds lighter and coming out with 700 hp. The 650 hp mustang will not run with a 600 hp viper and defiently not with the genv.

In the end I say who cares. Its just a mustang

Life is to short to fall in love with one car or one car brand in general.
While I wish I could keep some I simply don't have deep enough pockets.
While I understand this is a viper forum and there will be a lot of one sidedness. It's cool to see there are still "car guys" out there.
I haven't kept a car longer than three years as I like to sample different ones. I'm very excited to try fords new offering. As the 03 cobra was a awesome machine from ford.
As for everyone knows its a viper...or it's gets the most attention yadayada. The two years i owned mine, many people called it a vette. Some didn't know what it was, others didn't even know it had a v10. The cool thing is all the "car guys" know what it is and the same goes for the vettes and stangs.
I will definitely post my impressions once I get it.
For the people who just "don't get it" that's cool, enjoy your cars, I've enjoyed mine.

Ps. FLL B/W GTS your car collection is ********.

Viper>any mustang

I agree. I had a cobra mustang when I was 18 years old. Kids can work hard and afford them. Its a whole different story for vipers. You just dont see them and they are in a whole different class.

You will be being asked to race by 18 year old kids every week ! haha

Wow you are a clown. Hate to break it to you but someone looking to buy a new gt500 for 60k WONT have a problem slipping into a used Viper. Remember sweetheart we aren't talking about used ferrari's and Lamborghini's. We are talking about a Dodge.
Silly corvettes with their puny ls7 and ls9...::rolls eyes::

Some of you guys make the vette guys look tame. Brand delusion is strong amongst you guys.

And Twister I'm glad you think mustangs ****...that means we won't see you ruining one.

Never cared for the looks of the 60's mustangs. I don't think today's mustangs look any better. The engine line up is impressive. The 5.0 makes great power, and the 650 hp GT 500 amazing. The mustang has become the Honda civic of american cars. They all look the same and they are all over the place. I guess that's good for Ford they are making $$$$$.

The new Shelby is tempting but after getting online and building one I thought about how by the time I get it the new Mustang will only be about 18 months out and I will have spent $60k+ on a car that not only looks like a $22k car it will also look like a previous generation of a car anyone can buy for $22k. I'd rather drive a previous generation Viper if I were buying now.
