How many quarts does it take including filling the oil filter? I just got my Viper and it was 2 quarts over full. I'm going to change it.

Depends on the year-check out this most excellent list of everything you always wanted to know about fluids but were afraid to ask:

Thanks Bill. I see what happened. The dealer put 10 qts in instead of 8 qts. It's amazing that happened.

Engine Oil
7.6 L (8 Qts) / 8.0 L (8.5 Qts) with Filter (10 Qts for 01s+)

fyi, my service manual and owners manual say 9.5 quarts for my '94 (as I recall, I'll confirm when I get home).

There's no reason not to use a synthetic 0W or 5W. In Georgia you have nothing to worry about. Remember, the "W" number is a test at -25C or colder and you aren't close to that. I've used a 15W-40 year round in NY because even a 15W is good for -20C.

All my educating is simply showing you which what the numbers mean. It's a whole additional category when you add fuel economy to the equation, since the OEMs will do anything for that last 0.1 MPG. That's really why you have a 10W30 instead of something thicker in the first place.
